Lawyer files police report against ex-AG over release of LTTE 12
Lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz has filed a police report against former attorney-general Tommy Thomas over the latter’s decision to discontinue LTTE-linked terrorism proceedings against 12 individuals.
Khairul (above) lodged the report at the Sentul police station on Feb 28.
On Feb 21, Thomas exercised his constitutional power as then attorney-general to release the 12 individuals detained over alleged support of the defunct Sri Lanka-based militant organisation.
According to the report, Khairul urged the police to arrest Thomas as part of an investigation into alleged abuse of power by discontinuing the LTTE terrorism cases.
The Putra vice-president also urged the police to probe Thomas and other lawyers such as Ramkarpal Singh over an alleged conspiracy linked to the discontinuance of the LTTE terrorism proceedings.
“I am worried that following his resignation as attorney-general, Thomas would escape overseas and I urge the immigration authorities to impound (menahan) Thomas’ passport,” he said.
Khairul added that Thomas’ (photo) alleged abuse of power in discontinuing the LTTE terrorism proceedings had denigrated (memperlekehkan) the duty of the police to investigate the suspects.
The lawyer also urged for the re-arrest of the 12 individuals previously detained over alleged support of the defunct militant group, among others.
