BEST political statement for 2020 (1)

MM Online - Penang chief minister: Still stubborn about violating MCO? Then prepare for the worst:

Chow advised Penangites to use delivery services to get their basic needs instead of going out regularly to stock up

GEORGE TOWN, March 23 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has told Penangites to prepare for the worst if they still refuse to adhere to the movement control order (MCO) to stay at home.

He said Penang has already recorded 58 positive Covid-19 cases and one death as of yesterday.

“This is a worrying situation. Please don’t be stubborn, everyone must adhere to the MCO. If not, the MCO could be extended and we will face more difficulties,” the Penang lawmaker appealed in a message on Facebook Live at around 12.50pm today.

He said the state government has to take additional steps to make sure everyone stays at home and this includes RapidPenang and Penang Ferry reducing their service frequency. [...]

He advised everyone to use delivery services to get their basic needs instead of going out regularly to stock up.

“We have to issue new orders in these last 24 hours, such as ordering roadside stalls to stop operations, to limit the number of people going to the markets,” he said.

He said the Air Itam market had received a lot of coverage due to the daily crowds frequenting the site and this had been politicised and racialised.

He said Penang Pakatan Harapan was criticised for being a weak state government for allowing crowds at the market, while some parties had turned it into a racial issue and blamed certain races.

“From the beginning, I have stressed that I am not interested in politicising this issue. We are not proud of having less numbers of Covid-19 patients compared to other non-Pakatan Harapan states. This is not the time to play politics,” he said.

He reminded the people that wherever the Covid-19 patients are, whether in Penang, Melaka, Sarawak or Pahang, all of them are Malaysians.

“We should be fighting this as a country and as Malaysians,” he said.

[...]

He said he has also discussed the enforcement of the MCO in Penang with the state’s police chief.

“All roadblocks held in the state were to ensure people adhere to the MCO and to discourage people from going out without valid reason,” he said.

I salute CM Chow Kon Yeow. I deem his statement, reproduced below (highlighted in green), as the BEST political statement for year 2020 thus far:

  2. Why are we so hard on Dr Ong Hean Teik? Every morning there are 10,000 Dr Ong Hean Teiks in the Air Itam wet market and thousands more makan angin crossing the bridge (free toll aahh?).

    Go after them lah...

Why the MBPP so sibuk disturb his jog all alone in the park? The only person breaking the "social distancing" rule is the officer himself.

Power to Dr Ong.....my "Tank Man"...standing upright and alone against the brute (and stupid) authoritarian rule...

    1. Isn't Dr Ong Hean Teik an educated man? Indeed he must be because he saw fit to "lawyer-buruk" against a city council staff officer, instead of complying with the request to leave and return home

  3. Dr Ong represents the ESSENCE of the Penang spirit, always testing the boundaries always challenging the authority. How else was Gerakan born? Then when they became lembek the Penang spirit gave birth to DAP ha ha ha...

A long list of Penang-ites have challenged authority (ie Putrajaya) and did it the Penang-way.

But some Penang-ites give up too easily. When the going gets tough they cabut overseas and tembak pea-shooters from there.

But not Dr Ong, educated or not, doctor or char koay teow man in Air Itam, they stay behind, they don't run overseas, they stand defiant, stand tall, unafraid in the face of authority, come what may.....long live Penang lang...!!! (Just don't catch the virus ok...)

    2. Relak bro, I was half-joking.....my other half says there is a big difference between front-door Gerakan & DAP, ballot box) and back-door (Sheraton lobby front door pencuri pengkhianat). Have a nice MCO day.

  4. This is an EMBARRASSMENT to the PN government. Didn't they start a Tabung COVID-19 with 1 million starter? How much has been collected?

And didn't Muhyiddin just give MOH RM500 million? Why then does MOH need to start yet another Tabung?

Aren't they busy enough saving lives now they have to go around with a Milo Tin?

WHERE IS OUR MENTERI AIR SUAM AND HIS DEPUTY?

    212 cases today. 14 dead.

AWOL now for 5 days, after declaring the positive cases has plateaued. He RAN AWAY. COWARD. YES I AM SHOUTING.

    1. Or use the money from Tabung Harapan. Last heard it collected some RM350 millions. But then, is there really a Tubung Harapan since no traces of it could be found?

  5. 130 million per state hmmmm.

Selangor population 6.5 million. Means RM20 per head.

Perlis population 250,000. Means RM520 per head.

Whose idea was this? Muhyiddin, Tok Pa or Tengku Zafrul? Belajar kat sekolah mana?

  6. you are being delusional, only the indians and chinese likes to claim they malaysians, wait till the rest are comfortable at being called malaysians only this statement can be considered best.

  7. The stubbornness of Penang , especially Air Itam folks not complying to the MCO order has been heavily racialized by Race & Religion warriors, claiming Penang State Government dare not enforce against Chinese.

In fact, the bull-headedness cuts across racial lines , and more of a common community attitude - Malays, Chinese , Indians.
