Lawyer for Mohd Rawther is also that for Mahathir

KUALA LUMPUR: Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, the man at the centre of the latest allegations of sexual misconduct against PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, was today accompanied by lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla as they arrived to record a statement at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.

This comes two days after the 26-year-old, who worked as a research assistant at Anwar’s office, lodged a police report in which he attached a statutory declaration detailing an incident that took place in October last year.

Bukit Aman’s Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (D5) is investigating Yusoff’s allegations.

The interesting observation is not so much about the potential of Sodomy III but rather, and more significantly, the presence of lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla.

Lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla is the personal lawyer of PM Mahathir. Just a coincidence, I suppose, as lawyers can work for many clients.

For example, Haniff Khatri Abdulla was also the lawyer for Ahmad Najib Aris, the man who raped and murdered Canny Ong.

Rural and Regional Development Minister Rina Harun had in January 2019 appointed Haniff Khatri as chairman for the Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda). Haniff Khatri graduated from the London School of Economics and has practised as a lawyer for 19 years.

  1. Lawyer selection is very critical. And after you have made your selection you must listen to his or her advice.

But Jibby did not listen to his hot-shot lawyer Muhammad Shafee's advice NOT to take the stand, but he insisted. So I will wait patiently for another famous lawyer Gopal Sri Ram to ask Jibby how he could afford USD106,000 on a birthday gift for Rosmah, purchased in December 2014 in Honolulu.

Note this purchase was made when our East Coast states were under serious floods.

Jibby also spent RM127,000 in Shangri La Bangkok for "my support staff during my holiday". Why he needed support staff during his holiday was not explained. Note this was in January 2015, when the flood waters was still inundating the east coast states.

Jibby also spent RM3.3 million in a Swiss jeweler in Italy to buy a gift for a "Qatari PM's wife" who were also on holiday. Jibby and Rosmah must have accidentally bumped into the Qatari couple, like Azmin Ali's holiday entourage bumped into Hishamuddin's entourage in Morocco. Jibby said it was "customary to exchange gifts" but did not explain why it had to cost RM3.3 million, why he charged it to his personal credit card and what the Qatari couple gave Jibby and Rosmah in return, as it must be customary to reciprocate.

So you see, many complex questions for lawyers to deal with, so I wish Hanif Khathri all the best representing Rawther.

  2. You are just as bad as the Ketuanan freaks who made a big issue out of Attorney General Tommy Thomas being Chin Peng's lawyer when he sued the Malaysian government to he allowed to return to Malaysia.

One, a lawyer agreeing to take up a client's case does not mean he agrees with the client's other activities e.g. politics.

Two, a person has a right to legal representation , and a lawyer may not arbitrarily turn down a client without a reasonable justification e.g. clashes with his existing case load or conflict of interest.

  3. Hot-shot lawyer representing Jibby (in)famous cases:

    1. Shafee represented the MACC during a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the death of DAP aide Teoh Beng Hock at the agency’s then-Selangor headquarters in 2009. The RCI concluded that MACC officers’ aggressive interrogations had driven Teoh to suicide.

Suicide.....NOT murder....to date no one has been held responsible....but LKS got all the blame....

    2. As a legal advisor to Umno, Shafee represented the BN government during the 2009 Perak constitutional crisis that saw the state fall to BN after three Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen defected from the now-defunct coalition.

    3. Shafee defended former political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda when the latter was charged in 2006 with abetting the murder of Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu. The High Court acquitted Abdul Razak in 2008....shocking everyone...

Jibby's aide Baginda acquitted, but two others got death sentence.....

    4. The hot-shot lawyer defended Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib when the former Selangor mentri besar was charged in 1997 with breaching Australian currency laws after failing to declare the cash he was carrying through Brisbane Airport worth US$1 million at the time. Mat Taib was later acquitted. The infamous "My Ingris not so powderful...."

  4. The first piece of advice that Haniff Khatri should have given his client is to get a haircut and shave and put on some nice clothes. He looks like a homeless bum; maybe he is.....

    1. If you happened to see the latest picture of the client, he has indeed clean up his appearance...gone is the scraggly look, in its place, lo and behold, a clean cut face sans the beard and moustache, hair neatly combed, new attire, good enough to be ahem....LOL
