KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 — PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took to correcting actress Maya Karin when she asked him what it would feel like “if” he became prime minister next year at 72 years old.

In streaming service iFlix’s Hot Ones Malaysia, where host Maya treats her guest of the day to satay with increasingly spicier sauces while asking equally spicy questions, Anwar’s calm expression changed when Maya asked: “If next year you become prime minister, you’ll be 72 years old...”

Then falling out 

“There was an agreement that was signed, and it will be honoured.

“Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has done his bit by ensuring a peaceful (government) transition and my task is to ensure that the (electoral) pledges are honoured,” Anwar casually explained to Maya, with a smile.

Between bites of ever-spicier satay, which the political veteran managed, Anwar indicated that Dr Mahathir’s “genuine interest” to save the country during their court reconciliation before GE14 convinced him to collaborate with the current prime minister despite past disputes.

Dei, not me lah 

Dr Mahathir during his first tenure as prime minister had sacked Anwar as his deputy in 1998, with the latter being convicted of corruption and sodomy a year later.

Freed at the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s behest shortly after their Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition came to power last year, Anwar said he now has frequent discussions with the prime minister.

Hatred 

“I meet him (Dr Mahathir) once a week, once a fortnight. Of course, I don’t interfere in the government’s matters, but I do share certain issue with him,” Anwar said.

I wasn't aware there was a signed agreement about the power transition; yes, many others weren't also in the know.

And Mahathir has just hinted he may hang on for another two years, making his tenure as PM at least 3 years. 

Signed agreement?  I wonder, wakakaka? And even if there was one, obviously His imperial Imperator doesn't give an Eff.

But what saddens me is not so much my doubts about a probable non-existent 'signed agreement', but the increasing obsequity and timidity of Anwar.

How can a person like Mr Manmanlai be so obsequious to his arch foe, unless he is frightened, terrified, sh*t-scared, but of what?

A warning, threat or anticipated dread of going to jail again?

When asked to clarify the timeframe in which he will remain as prime minister before stepping down, Dr Mahathir said: “I don’t know whether it is three years or two years, but I am an interim prime minister.”

Dr Mahathir has yet to detail when Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will take over but has consistently downplayed concerns over a succession plan.

The transition issue has been a contentious one. Although Dr Mahathir has repeatedly stated that he will hand over the prime minister’s post to Anwar, no formal timeframe has been set.

Some within Pakatan Harapan (PH) also feel that Dr Mahathir should be allowed a full term to carry out the coalition’s reform pledges.

In addition, PH secretariat chief Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah had said in January that the length of Dr Mahathir’s term has never been discussed at the pact’s presidential council’s meetings.

Mohd Hasan has been spot on when he said Mahathir will play Anwar out, as he had played all his deputy PMs out.

And don't hope for him to leave this world in order for Anwar to take over, wakakaka - apart from being unnecessarily cruel and inhumane for us or anyone to wish for his or anyone's demise, Mahathr has been blessed with longevity genes. I wouldn't be surprised if the Old Man outlives Anwar Ibrahim.
