Metamorphosis of Tony Pua after being struck dumb by Najib's sarcasm

Malaysiakini - Najib vouches for Tony Pua to deliver toll abolition promise (extracts):

Najib's Revenge

Tony Pua - from Chicken Little to Tua P'au Sian (Raja Tembak) to Struck-Dumb
(like a mute stung by bee)

How can TP be a financial whiz kid?

Eric See-To (BN deputy Comms Boss) informed us (and not denied by TP) that prior to TP's political involvement, TP’s Cybervillage suffered six straight years of continued losses from 2002 to 2007, whereafter he packed his bags, left Singapore for Selangor and joined DAP to bless the party with 'his technical expertise on financial matters', wakakaka.Yes, when TP's company got into some cash-flow issues in 2005 or 2006, he called Eric See-To for a loan for (sic) RM100k, and within hours, Eric gave it to him

See-to further wrote that despite their political differences, he was one of the first to congratulate Pua when the latter was elected MP in 2008. Later, he also helped out by arranging fund-raising golf tournaments, he added.

Eric lamented: “But I guess now he is a high-flying Member of Parliament, he can dismiss me as a nobody and no longer considers me as a friend."

Eric See-To said he was disappointed that DAP lawmaker Tony Pua declined his invitation to debate over the Penang Tunnel project and even called the former a "nobody".

The Barisan Nasional strategic communications (BNSC) deputy director said that despite their political differences, he had thought Pua and him were friends and that Pua's remark saddened him.

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has vouched for Damansara MP Tony Pua to deliver on Pakatan Harapan’s promise of abolishing tolled highways.

(Wakakaka)

He noted that in 2009, Pua had claimed that it would only cost RM25 billion to abolish tolled highways – much cheaper than the RM231 billion cited by the government at the time, or the RM400 billion cited by the current government.

“Therefore, I propose that the Pakatan government should task Tony Pua in the effort to abolish all highway tolls to deliver on one of the main promises in their manifesto.

“I believe that Pua and DAP are not liars and their far cheaper estimate is correct, and not made merely to cheat people of their votes.

“Now, I am a road user paying tolls. Therefore, I too would be happy if all tolls are abolished as promised by Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto. Moreover, the toll concessionaires are neither my friends or my cronies, but are from the era of a prime minister who came before me,” he said in a Facebook post today.

(Wakakaka)

Pua was among the DAP parliamentarians who studied highway concession agreements signed by the government when it was declassified by the then finance minister Najib in 2009.

Later that year, he disputed the RM231 billion figure cited by the government as being the supposed cost of buying back 26 highway concessionaires.

He claimed at the time that it would only cost RM25 billion, considering the following factors:

1. The declassified highway concession contracts have revealed clearly under the expropriation terms of the highways that the government does not have to pay compensation for future profits, with the exception (being) the North-South Expressway (Plus) and the Penang Bridge.

2. The government does not need to buy back all highways but only those which are (clearly) making astronomical profits at the expense of daily commuters.

3. Litrak, the owner of LDP (Damansara-Puchong Highway) had for example, projected total profits of RM18.8 billion for the LDP concession, despite the cost of the highway, including interest, amounting to only RM1.327 billion.

However, Pua had only outlined the figures with the aim of maintaining or reducing toll rates, rather than eliminating it altogether.

In its 2018 election manifesto, Harapan had promised to review all highway concession agreements and negotiate its takeover, with the aim of abolishing tolls gradually while providing fair compensation for the affected companies.

Yesterday, Works Minister Baru Bian told the Dewan Rakyat that the government will postpone its plans to abolish tolls until it is more financially viable to do so.

He said that one of the main reasons is because it would cost over RM400 billion to do so, and the promise was made before Harapan knew of the full extent of Malaysia’s financial situation.

KT reminder: Pua had claimed that it would only cost RM25 billion to abolish tolled highways – much cheaper than the RM231 billion cited by the government at the time, or the RM400 billion cited by the current government.

Najib's hypocrisy attacking Pakatan for failing to do in 100 days, what Najib either failed or had no interest to carry out in 3650 days in office.

  3. PH Govt. should consider abolishing tolls in phases instead of total abolishment altogether which may be not possible at this time of tight fiscal conditions.

By phases is meant like abolishing tolls in urban centers first or exempting passengers vehicles first then moving on to semi urban and rural areas.

That would be a better option to be seen doing something fulfilling partly the PH manifestos rather than not doing anything but asking people to wait.

Doing bit by bit may take 10-20 years for all tolls to be abolished which by then may even be cheaper to compensate when all the toll companies are slowly taken over by Govt. GLC and GLICs.

Voters anger will arise when not seeing even a little bit done but instead told to wait for Govt. fiscal position to improve.

    1. wonders where the money the government will get from if they totally abolished the toll, from Petronas? which actually in the first place the oil come from Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu? Sabah & Sarawak are the most least developed state during Mahathir time, luckily Najib did something on the Pan Borneo highway, though the status still uncertain at the moment...

By now, we ought to know that whatever projects proposed by Bugis Pirate is not "luckily" for rakyat, only LUCKY for Big Thief and his ilks....work out the hefty mark ups and this will dispel you of the so-called blessing bestowed upon the unwitting rakyat. If by now masih ada banyak blur blur sotong, tak sedar lagi...mampus dan jahanam la negara kita.

Bridget Welsh's critique of Pakatan Harapan's first 100 days is far more level headed, without Ktemoc's pro-Najib agenda.

  5. WHAT?!!

The Najib government ballooned our toll road debt from RM231B in 2009 to RM400B in 2018? Who was the PM & FM for these exact 9 years?? Why didn’t he try to reduce these debts? Renegotiate with these “cronies of PM4&7 and non-friends” etc? Why did he simply allow the debts to nearly double? The rakyat already owe 1T, now another 400B?

Najib did not object to the 400B figure, so it must be correct. This is a huge debt that the Najib government has secretly piled on to the rakyat.

Now it is exposed by Baru Bian but he should have called for a press conference, lights, camera, action, issued a 4-page Ministerial press statement and expose yet another hidden Red File. He has much to learn from Guanee. But never mind, this blog is helping to do just that.

  8. This PM6 was simply hopeless. If BN had won GE14 the toll debt would be 800B by the time of GE15. It will take a superhuman FM to sort out this financial mess.

  9. If 231B was bad why do nothing and allow it to escalate to 400B?

    1. it was bad in the first place because one former PM gave his cronies the toll gift - prices escalates through the years, not because Jibby allow it to rise; wait a few more years and it'll go up and up

  11. Najib is in desperate need of a communications / PR advisor. His Facebook comments are like Trump’s train-wreck tweets. Every time he tries to criticise the Harapan government he makes himself and UMNO/BN look even worse. With this latest poke at Tony he did not realise he has admitted blowing taxpayers’ toll debt from 231B to 400B in the nine years he was in power, on top of our national 1T debt. Now who exactly are the beneficiaries of these iron-clad toll concessionaires who will be paid either the toll if tolls are to continue, or 400B if they are abolished? If these people really are TDM’s friends and cronies Najib should have no problem naming them. In the era of a transparent New Malaysia I also want to know.
