PETALING JAYA: Sangeet Kaur Deo, daughter of the late Karpal Singh, has voiced her reservations over the naming of Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime ministerial candidate.
Disagreeing with the move, she said the fact that the opposition had “no one else” to choose to be prime minister showed its lack of long-term strategy.
“The focus should always be on policies and principles (not personalities) and leaders must be groomed to ensure continuity.
“While it may be an act in desperation, as was our coalition with PAS at one point, will we be open to working with Najib (Prime Minister Najib Razak) one day, should desperate circumstances demand?” she asked in a statement.
PH yesterday confirmed Mahathir as its prime ministerial candidate should it win the next polls.

Sangeet said the argument that working with Mahathir was only to ensure change no longer holds water.
“He will be PM all over again. Introducing the rebirth of Mahathirism.”

Sangeet also questioned the likelihood of jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim taking over from Mahathir, who was supposed to only be an interim prime minister until Anwar became eligible.
Sangeet, who is with DAP, also said that Mahathir’s apology over the Internal Security Act (ISA) and other wrongdoings during his tenure as PM was done half-heartedly.
“This is not about forgiveness. This is about accountability. Persons in positions of power should be held accountable for their actions.

“Equally, he should be too, especially since the opposition has vowed to revamp the Attorney-General’s Chambers once in power, there should be no double standards about who should be investigated.”
She pointed out that the leaders in the opposition had remained silent in the face of Mahathir’s recent “apologies”.

“Judging from that, should we also expect silence from them during his forthcoming reign, should we take Putrajaya.”
Sangeet added that DAP had always been the voice against abuse of power, freedom of the press, independence of the judiciary, sanctity of our institutions and other issues.
“DAP, I can’t hear you,” is how she ended her statement.
Aka, you said all. I am afraid those goofy gullible guppies who (still in their imported diapers) haven't had a taste of Mahathirism and think they know it all, will disbelieve you and not only that, will also abuse you.
That has been their signature bad toxic loud behaviour.
But your very vocal expressions put paid to the fake news that everyone in Pakatan supports the nomination of Mahathir as PM-designate. Yes ma'am, not everyone is a goofy gullible guppy or a power-crazy once-upon-a-time icon.

I wonder whether we will be safe under the government of such toxic abusers a la Bush-ism 'either you're either with us or against us'. Michelle Yeoh should be able to give us some tips.
I agree with Sangeeta on the UNLIKELIHOOD of jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim ever taking over from Mahathir. The Old Dictator will stay on as a perpetual 'interim PM' just as he believe previously he was the perpetual PM who appointed TWO successors in AAB and Najib. Indeed, he has been the ONLY PM in the world who has two successors, hardly surprising with his imperialistic otak.
With such a pompous power-possessive mindset, Anwar can wait forever to be eligible, that is, if he is lucky enough not to be jailed again under a wannabe-PM Mahathir.
Anwar's family will regret the day they gave their support to Mahathir. There is no doubt in mind and in many others' that the Old Man still hates Anwar, and believe me, it's not about sodomy which has been just his excuse - it's all about betrayal, and sadly by Anwar of him, wakakaka.
Though Anwar was on the 'eve' of his 'inheritance' of the PM-ship from Mahathir, Mr Manmanlai was 'pushed' by his Anwarista faction into taking over A.S.A.P because they were famished for the more of the gravy on the UMNO choo-choo train.
In 1998, Anwar was said to have send his Youth Chief, our dear Ahmad Zahid wakakaka, to 'expedite' Mahathir's departure.
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi called for an end to cronyism and nepotism during a speech to delegates, implying it was Mahathir's shady dealings.
Zahid asked rhetorically, “Why were big loans to big businessmen approved so easily when small guys had to wait so long to get a loan of RM50,000?”
The rest is history, and it's not that Zahid was wrong in his accusations; it's just that he too was guilty of his own accusations, wakakaka. He shot himself in the foot so badly that people forgot about his allegations against Mahathir, wakakaka again.
But Mahathir has never ever ever ever forgiven Anwar for that blunder, an attempted soft coup d'état.
For Mahathir to promise he will eventually give way to Anwar has been the biggest joke, and the silliest con-job Wan Azizah has swallowed. I know she is gullible but didn't realise that bloody gullible.
Mahathir, if Pakatan wins and he becomes PM, will ensure Mukhriz gets the PM job and his sons' businesses protected, full stop.
I doubt Mahathri will even trust Azmin Ali to train Mukhriz into the job as he had mistakenly hoped for Najib to train his son too. Mahathir won't be bitten twice - only Wan Azizah and family will, wakakaka.
Sangeeta is mad that Pakatan, especilaly DAP leaders have remained silently kuai kuai to Mahathir's insincere apology, as if he is forgiven without the need for accountability.
She no longer believes that the DAP is still the voice against abuse of power, freedom of the press, independence of the judiciary, and sanctity of our institutions and other issues.
Sangeeta is surely the daughter of her illustrious father, Karpal Singh. Like her courageous father, she speaks up bravely when no one else dares to, indicating pointedly to Pakatan's double standards.
I feel sad that the DAP has, as Homer did, 'nodded' in its alliance with racist Pribumi and its anti-Chinese Mahathir.
I blame it all on the power-avarice of Lim Kit Siang and his influence over a DAP without a Karpal Singh.
Since when have you been the voice against abuse of power, freedom of the press, independence of the judiciary, sanctity of our institutions...you have been silent on the actions of the CURRENT administration carrying out such abuses.
ReplyDeleteI put it to you that you are just promoting your personal biases.
Ktemoc, I can't hear you...
