The cock-a-doodle-doo story

All the three major Christian churches, Roman Catholic*, Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox (Coptic, Ethiopian, etc), recognize the Apostle (Simon) Peter as the first archbishop and thus the pope.

* The Protestant church and Church of England could be considered as splinter groups of the RC church

okay lah, I was the 1st Pope but I acknowledge I wasn't infallible

Yet we learn from the bible that the Apostle Peter, later canonized as a saint, denied his Lord Jesus, not just once but thrice, in what we Malaysians in our cute Manglish would described as 'acted dunno one', wakakaka.

This was of course at a time when Jesus was in deep trouble with the Romans, thus explaining Peter's denial of knowing him or being his follower - a denial, as mentioned, done not once but on three separate occasions, 'ere the rooster crowed.

Luke 22:32-34 (KJV) tells us of the dialogue between Jesus and Peter as follows:

But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

Look, Peter was the No 1 disciple of Jesus and Christianity's leading apostle! Yet he denied his spiritual master, his Lord, disowning any knowledge of, or relationship to the Christian saviour? Why?

Simple explanation - Peter was shit scared for his own life, his personal survival despite his vain boast prior to the official persecution of Jesus and his followers, of 'Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.'

Now, if the No 1 disciple of Jesus and Christianity's leading apostle, the Christian church's first archbishop and first pope could deny his own saviour, can we ever blame Malaysian Muslims from not openly supporting the Malaysian RC church in its insistence to refer to the Christian god as Allah?

Though I was annoyed by JAIS' arrogant and illegal raid to seize copies of the al Kitab from a non-Muslim organization, the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM), a highly offensive and intrusive infringement of non-Muslim domain, I didn't and won't support the church on the Allah-word issue. To know why, please see my posts:

(a) Allah, Elohim or Yahweh?

(b) Now, who are the Arab wannabes?

(c) The Church & Allah

And I wasn't surprised that PKR Muslim members like Wan Azizah, Azmin Ali, Nurul Izzah etc didn't dare enter into the fray over the JAIS' raid. I don't blame anyone of them for the same reason that even Christianity's great apostle St Peter denied his Lord at a time when it would have required not only his guts to make a stand on his faith and loyalty to his saviour but also his life (when then he, Peter that was, would have become a saint much earlier).

No, it would have been unwise of them to do so, especially Princess Reformasi (wakakaka) who had on a previous occasion unfortunately committed a drastic religious faux pas when in a forum in early November 2012, she 'expressed her support for freedom of religion for all Malaysians, including Malays, ....... [where] Her remarks drew widespread backlash among conservative Muslim groups and Umno hardliners, who accused the PKR vice president of supporting apostasy'.

okay lah, I am Princess Reformasi but I acknowledge I hadn't been infallible

For more of above, see my post Tough for Nurul, tough is Nurul? where the question-mark in my post title suggested that Nurul's 'toughness' was questionable and that she didn't come out of that faux pas very well.

In fact, she had a humongous bloody fright when she realized somewhat too late the socio-politico-religious import of saying that she supported freedom of religion even for Malays.

She had to scurry off to Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, the former Perlis Mufti, to help her explain to the public what she had stated.

But Siti Kasim, the Bar Council human rights committee and Orang Asli rights advocate, was less generous than kaytee (wakakaka) because in the midst of that alleged apostasy brouhaha by Nurul, she (Siti) emerged to say that she was disappointed with Princess Reformasi for backing down from her (Nurul's) statement, namely, that freedom of religion was a right for all including the Malay-Muslims.

Siti lamented that Nurul failed to stand firm on her remark, saying: “I believe Nurul was just trying to impress the people. She didn't think of the consequences. There’s nothing wrong about it [freedom of religion], she is saying the truth. I expected a hoo-ha after that. But as a politician, you just need to stick to the truth."

"In the following days she ‘retracted’ her remark, and said she did not support apostasy. But indirectly when you say you support freedom of religion, and if Malay wants to get out from Islam, that’s apostasy.”

Yup mateys, I didn't and don't blame Nurul for not wanting to be the Muslim equivalent of Jeanne d'Arc.

okay lah, I am a saint but I acknowledge I wasn't infallible
'coz I was burnt alive

I wrote in that post Tough for Nurul, tough is Nurul? as follows:

Hmmm, maybe Nurul indeed wanted to impress her audience but alamak, Siti, cut her some slack lah as Nurul is still young and really, a babe in the political woods. Besides, to a Muslim, apostasy is an extremely serious issue, where the punishment could well be death (though of course the authorities won't go to that extent in Malaysia).

Her dad, Mr Manmanlai has just emerged, wakakaka, in the current controversy to have, as usual, his cake and eat it too, wakakaka, when he criticized both the high-handedness of the JAIS' raid and three DAP ADUNs for proposing to amend the Selangor Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Propagation Among Muslims) Enactment 1988 - an enactment which prohibits non-Muslims in Selangor from using 35 Arabic words and phrases in their faith, including the Allah word.

In his latter criticism against the DAP ADUNs. Anwar said 'there is no need for such hasty action as there are proper channels within the state government and Pakatan Rakyat for them to put forth their views.'

As for JAIS, Mr Manmanlai declared: “If Jais felt that there are any actions that have contravened the law, then they should call up the relevant parties for an explanation. But you can’t take such drastic action because it will be perceived as anti-Christian. There is no need for such action. It only causes tension.”

To reiterate, I don't blame Anwar or any PKR Muslims or for that matter, any Malay Muslims for being cautious on (or scared of) such a sensitive issue, no, not even the 'Royal MB', wakakaka, for saying words to the effect, let's all toe HRH's line ;-)

And neither should any Christian, because if any Christian wants to criticize Anwar, Nurul, the 'Royal MB' or PKR for buat diam diam saja, or for not saying something stronger on the issue, he/she should first condemn St Peter for denying his Lord Jesus, not just once but 3 times on a matter of faith, yes the Christian faith, even before any rooster went cock-a-doodle-doo, wakakaka.

But it's okay for Ambiga Sreenevasan to whack the Selangor State government for being pathetic in its tepid reaction to the illegal JAIS' raid because she's presumably not a Christian, wakakaka.

Now, having defended PKR wakakaka, let me defend those three DAP Selangor ADUNs - Yeo Bee Yin (Damansara), Rajiv Rishyakaran (Bukit Gasing) and Lau Weng San (Kampung Tunku) - for proposing to amend Selangor's religiously prohibitive enactment, presumably to enable Christians in the state (like Father Lawrence Andrew, wakakaka) to use the Allah word in Christian prayers.

Look mates, they have their own Christian constituencies to look after, just as PKR Muslims have theirs. If they failed to say at least something, their voters won't be too pleased come GE-14.

Hmmm, I wonder about those PKR non-Muslims? Tian Chua seems to be very quiet wakakaka.

But in the midst of all this understandable tap-dancing, Marina Mahathir stands out like a shining beacon. I salute her.

Hopefully in my next I'll have something more to say about Father Lawrence Andrew's arrogant announcement that Catholic churches in Selangor would continue to use the 'Allah' word, ignoring the biblical caution of 1 Samuel 2:3 (KJV), that of:

Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

Wakakaka or perhaps cock-a-doodle-doo.

ooops, I mean 'doo' not 'boo', wakakaka

okay lah, I am a rooster but I acknowledge I am not infallible

wakakaka

  1. I dont think the priest was arrogant. Rather, he felt the Christian community was being pushed to a corner, and like anyone in a corner, he had to protect his herd and fight back.
You are not a Christian and hence no matter how much you quote from the Bible, it doesn't show you have much of an understanding of the religion and of St Peter at that time when he did what he did.

  3. Muslim scholars, particularly from the Shia school of thought, believe that the final Imam, who is Imam Mahdi, is the descendant of Apostle (Simon) Peter from his mother’s side and the descendant of Prophet Muhammad from his father’s side.

Imam Mahdi will assist Isa (Jesus Christ) to bring justice and peace to the world. The original Tawrah (Torah), Zabur (Psalms), Injil (Gospel) will be found by Imam Mahdi and together with the Quran are accepted as one by all the people. The Jews, Christians and Muslims and even Jesus Christ will pray behind Imam Mahdi.

I like the ending because it is a sort of a unity between Muslims, Christians and the Jews. I wish I could live that long to witness this. Just curious, will Imam Mahdi use the word Allah, Elohim, Yahweh, etc when he lead the congregational prayers.

  8. What does all this got to do with the daily struggle for a living ?

The recent and impending price increases hit everybody, but they hit the low income Malays the worst.
Maybe this is a way to divert their attention and get everyone worked up about "Allah"

Do you know what has happened after the DUMC raid last year ? Many Christian charities which have a charter to offer aid irrespective of race or religion now turn away Malay Muslims in need. Its not worth the potential trouble with authorities.

One-off aid is easy. It is the most difficult cases of hard core poverty which require follow up - you need to stay in touch with them, visit where they live and work out how best the family can be helped out of their situation.
All too easy to generate suspicion of "proselytization".

Who are the losers ? The poorest of the Malay Muslims.
The Muslim organisations are not taking up the gap. Frankly, many of them are inefficient and some engage in "leakage". A fraction of their funds actually gets to aid those in need.

There is an element of truth in proselytization. But then again, what the fuck kaytee is doing with his articles on christianity. Sama sama also. Kaytee is as hypo as manmanlai whom he hated due to his invovlement with his sister's cat.
Of course, kaytee's very oblivious with the hyperactive islamisation of Sabah started with Tun Mustapha, Tunku's strong ally. Strange hah, some Tunku's friends had become muslim. One of them is Lim Yew Hock. Yew Hock was appointed as Australia High Commissioner.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lim_Yew_Hock

"In 1964, Lim was appointed Malaysian High Commissioner to Australia, based in Canberra. In June 1966, he went missing from Canberra. A massive police search was unsuccessful in locating him. His wife and daughters went on national television to plead for his safe return, and the Malysian Prime Minister at the time, Tunku Abdul Rahman, made a personal appeal from Kuala Lumpur and sent Malaysia's chief of protocol, Enche Abdul Rahman Jallal, to Sydney to help in the search.[3]
It was discovered that Lim had flown from Canberra to Sydney under the name "Hawk". It was also revealed that he had an ongoing association with a 19-year-old Kings Cross stripper, Sandra Nelson. Initially, she too could not be located, but later said she had no idea where Lim had been. Then, just as mysteriously as he had disappeared, Lim turned up after being missing for ten days. A passing stranger had discovered him ill, wandering on a Sydney street, and took him in. Apparently the stranger was not aware of Lim’s identity for nine days, and had not even made the connection from the nationwide media coverage of his disappearance. The stranger drove him to Canberra to return him to the High Commission. The stranger’s identity was never revealed.[3]
In later years Lim became a Muslim and adopted the name of Haji Omar Lim Yew Hock. He died in Saudi Arabia on 30 November 1984 and was buried in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.[1]"

Hmmm.....I wonder if kaytee was related to Lim Yew Hock. Hahahahaha!

Back to the story, Islamisation so active in Sabah that at one point of time, siginifcant number of aduns in sabah were to become muslim.

My point is........there is a hyperactive conversion done by people such as Mustapha......but no issue......so?

  9. Malaysia Constitution Article number: 11.

(1)Every person has the right to profess and practice his religion and, subject to Clause (4), to propagate it.
    (2) No person shall be compelled to pay any tax the proceeds of which are specially allocated in whole or in part for the purposes of a religion other than his own.
    (3) Every religious group has the right -
    (a) to manage its own religious affairs;
    (b) to establish and maintain institutions for religious or charitable purposes; and
    (c) to acquire and own property and hold and administer it in accordance with law.

    (4) State law and in respect of the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Lubuan, federal law may control or restrict the propagation of any religious doctrine or belief among persons professing the religion of Islam.
    (5) This Article does not authorize any act contrary to any general law relating to public order, public health or morality.

Is Article 11 of the Constitution of Malaysia now dead ?
Are we now an Islamic Caliphate ?

The Selangor Enactment which Jais used is meant to be under Clause (4).
But it is important to understand the spirit of Clause (4) - the key word is control or restrict the propagation of any religious doctrine or belief among persons professing the religion of Islam.
The government has the right to make laws penalising or restricting any attempt to convert Muslims to other religions - but its a huge leap from this to making laws to dictate what words may or may not be used in a Malay language Bible, or even outlaw Malay language bibles.

Its like saying motor cars are forbidden because it MAY be used to knock down and kill someone. Of course it MAY, but it would be stupid to ban driving the motor car in itself.

Ktemoc's arguments against Father Lawrence et al, and proposing "Elohim" to be used, is more under Clause 5 - freedom of religion does not give you the right to carry out acts threatening public order, health or morality.

Wow ! Its a massive leap to accuse the Catholic Church of actions threatening public order. Now Father Lawrence is being questioned for Sedition.

This is a scary, slippery slope we are on.
If I were a younger man, I would likely be tempted to apply to emigrate to Australia or Canada.

Side track a bit , but of interest to you.
Chandra, had claimed that “Anwar in his dealings with Kampung Rawa clash between Hindus and Indian Muslims in Penang had said that he would make sure the temple bell would not ring in the country any more if his dictum was not accepted.”

Anwar sued him, and Chandra has now retracted his statement, made during the 2008 election campaign.
The claim that Anwar threatened "to ensure the Indian temple bells would not ring in the country any more" is plainly defamatory and not backed by any objective facts and witnesses.

    1. This is got to support my matey, kaytee. Like I say, there are elements of truth. Kaytee mentioned about Anwar being the enforcer in the Sabah's UMNO takeover. Truth! But who is the mastermind. Madhater. Furthermore, there are plenty of enforcers who are worse than Anwar. Namely Haris Salleh & Tun Mustapha. Tun Mustapha instigated riots in Kota Kinabalu immediately after Mustapha/Sallehs failed move to take over the government by trickery in 1985, Parin did no just bar from entering the governor's office in 1994. First time was in 1985. After Pairin become chief minister, PBS immediately joined BN. PBS was forced to share power with Berjaya & USNO through power sharing. Did Anwar involve in that too?

Using Kaytee's analogy, many leaders whom kaytee admired should be condemned.

Ku Li was involved in enforcing the petroleum agreement, paying state only meagre 5%. Ku Li was directly involved in Kelantan UMNO takeover in 1977. That involved emergency. Ku Li was related to Kelantan royalty.

What about Tunku then? Behind the scene, he had plotted the downfall of Stephen Kalong Ninkang & Forcing Donald Stephen to resign from chief minister's post.

  19. This is the problem of kaytee not reading the context of the scripture. Never mind la since RPK says all these folks especially kaytee to be shot dead. Perhaps, Peter was shameful that Jesus whom he revered died in a horrible death. Peter was a jew. All the jews believe that the messiah would come back as a lagendary warrior saving the Jews. Unfortunately, Jesus didn't come in a knight shining armour but on a donkey enroute jerusalem. Anyway, it's meaningless to talk to kaytee about this.

14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 “‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
      and they will prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
      and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
      21 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.’[c]

      The Choosing of the Seven

6 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews[a] among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

      Saul’s Conversion

9 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues[b] and praising God.

      Peter Explains His Actions

11 The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him 3 and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”

4 Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story: 5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. 6 I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds. 7 Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’

      Kaytee,
Do read the whole Book of Acts again. All Jesus first disciples are jews. They practised Jewish customs. Plus, you don't have a fucking cibai right to say they are not. Anyway, didn't RPK wanna shoot you for not being a christian to begin with?

  25. A Malay friend whom I have known for over 20 years was ecstatic when his son was admitted to study at Cairo's Al-Azhar university.
In the world of Islamic scholarship, its would be equivalent to having an offspring attending Cambridge or MIT. Any parent would be justifiably proud.

One may surmise from the esteem with which Al-Azhar is held that there is such a thing as a Universal or Global Islam, that is not simply a Malay Islam. Just as obvious to anyone who bothers to delve into the subject, in Egypt, the country which hosts Al-Azhar, the Moslems have for centuries accepted Christians in their midst refer to their God as Allah. Its just so naturally accepted , it is a non-issue there.

So why are Malays going around insisting "Allah is only for Islam", when that is plainly not Islamic theology. This includes people who should know better, like State Muftis and PAS Ulamas like Haron Din.

I simply asked the question to my old friend, but I'm afraid this issue is straining our friendship as well. Like so many Malays, he seems to be fully adamant that "Allah is only for Muslims."

In the 500 years history of Christianity in South-East Asia, evidence of Christian proselytization among Muslims is very thin on the ground. No denying that some of it was happening, but there is very little to show for it.
The Bataks and other Christianized indigenous tribes in Sumatra were not Muslims to start with. They were originally animists, and they became converts due to the efforts of Dutch missionaries who were willing to endure the hardships and danger (they used to kill early missionaries) of living among the tribesmen.
Similarly for the Melanesian tribes peoples of Timor and West Papua.
The Spaniards did carry out some conversions of Muslims, but the vast majority of the Catholics in the Philippines were descended from people who converted from animism, not Islam. In the Southern Philippines, which was largely Muslim, Christianity did not get very far.

So this undue fear of Christians converting Muslims is more politically motivated shit-stirring than anything else.
