Teng Chang Yeow fears voters of Padang Kota Lama

One thing is clear - Lim Chong Eu's Gerakan Party is no more; let me say that again with some sadness, the Gerakan Party with its 'Satu Hati' spirit conceived in 1969 is no more.

And how do I know that?

Penang state BN chief Teng Chang Yeow (also from Gerakan Party) refuses to meet Lim Guan Eng in Padang Kota Lama, a state constituency that Teng had won and represented for THREE TERMS prior to March 2008.

He dares not stand in his old stronghold where he had the voters' support for THREE TERMS.

Why?

Because he knows he has lost those voters' confidence in him as their representative. Penangites know Gerakan and MCA politicians have run out of their use-by dates.

Penangites have eliminated Gerakan Party on 05 March 2008 in the way they eliminated Wong Pow Nee's MCA on 10 May 1969, ironically in favour of a then Penang Gerakan Party under Lim Chong Eu.

Gerakan Party's slogan today is no longer 'Satu Hati' but 'Ta'ada Hati' - am being polite here, wakakaka.

Teng should honourably withdraw and concede defeat.

As Sivamurugan Pandian says, Lim Guan Eng has to stand for election in a racially mixed state constituency as proof of his commitment to being a chief minister for all Penangites.

    1. The more important observation is that Teng is running away from his old constituency which previously elected him for 3 terms. By not daring to stand in Padang Kota Lama he has shown he failed the rakyat there and is afraid to show his face to them. The talk about mixed race constituency is just a diversionary excuse not to face his old supporters, and probably an opportunity to sell himself to people who may not be aware of his failure as a people's representative to the people of Padang Kota Lama.

    2. Don't quote Siva Pandian who is talking nonsense. He should comment on the practice of UMNO president automatically becoming PM of Malaysia even though non-Malays have no say in UMNO elections.

    3. Why not ask Najib to stand in Seputih, Batu ,Kepong or even Gelang Patah after he always claims to be 1Malaysia PM.

  2. A chicken will always forever be a chicken. His mother told him not to be a poker player, unless he has the guts or real balls to go for broke. Now Teng has to eat humble pie and forever remain a coward(bohod).

  8. As an independent, non-partisan voter, I have to say that I'm impressed with Lim Guan Eng's performance as Penang Chief Minister - far superior to the previous incumbent.

However, I'm very troubled by DAP's apparent (I say apparent, as I may not know the whole story) tendency to treat its Parliament or State seats as party commodities, to be traded as they like.

Liew Chin Tong jumping away from Bukit Bendera after 1 term, and now Lim Guan Eng moving out of Air Puteh after 1 term troubles me a lot as to DAP's atttitude towards voters.

An MP or State Reps' first responsibility is to his constituents, and a certain level of loyalty is due. The seat is both a Party and a personal seat. Thats the logic why when an MP passes away, a by-election must be held to elect a new representative, and not simply replaced by another appointee of the incumbent party.

If an MP has served a constituency for many years, and he or the party feels a fresh face is needed, that's fine with me. Or a candidate who did not get elected tries his luck elsewhere, that's perfectly OK.

    1. those are only plans for GE-13. The DAP MPs and ADUNs continue to serve their constituencies who elected them until their terms end with GE-13. DAP as a party can send its politician-soldiers anywhere to best serve the people of Malaysia. Strong warrior politician-soldiers would be sent to enemy strongholds to convince the people there DAP can better serve them. They leave their well-serviced constituencies plus examples for newer politicians in their party to follow and serve.

    2. The duty of an Adun or a MP is to formulate law not looking after drains & pot holes. Nik Aziz in Kelantan would serve me well as a KL resident non Kelantan constituent when he opposes the ISA, OSA & what not. Guess our duty as rakyat is to put all these like-minded people into the Government, where ever they stand.

    3. In principle, if an MP's responsibility is to his constituents, shouldn't he/she consult with them before voting for a bill that is to be tabled in Parliament? And this should apply to both ruling & opposition parties, in a non-partisan way? That means an MPs vote for or against the bill and not along party lines. But current practice is the ruling party MP gets a blank cheque to pass laws and use the whip to ensure the party MPs vote to pass the bill. Does the MPs answer to their party or to their constituents?

  9. So Guan Eng MUST stand in a mixed constituency? Then what about Najib and his Deputy? It is an even bigger imperative for then, then, isn't it? If not these BN dogs should just shut up and suck it up. You know BN will not regain Penang, ever.
Guan Eng is the CM of the State. It is up to his party (and for him) to decide where any candidate, including the CM is best placed.
