Mysterious death of Teoh Beng Hock - Lil' Napoleons factor

The day news broke out that Teoh Beng Hock died, a sweetie and I discussed what could have possibly happened.

I suspected, and said so, that the MACC interrogation and the ‘associated SOP* techniques’ (already made renown by our police) had gone horribly horribly wrong.

* standard operating procedures

I provided a scenario of what could have happened.

Today, a friend persuaded me to read RPK’s piece on the likely scenario in The writing was already on the wall so long ago. I was amazed at our similar visualization of the likely tragic happenings leading to Teoh’s death.

Looks like our world famous lil’ Napoleons must have done it again, going beyond the ‘call of duty’ but as usual, lacking basic commonsense to know the limits of what they could safely do.

It sure as f* didn’t help when they knew they won’t ever be held accountable – read on to the end to see what I mean.

Then this afternoon, Malaysiakini’s Last man to see Teoh: MACC threatened me reported on another person hauled in MACC for an Abu Ghraib-ish session.

MIKINI stated: Kajang municipal councillor Tan Boon Hwa, who was grilled by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday, today shed some light on the corruption watchdog's questionable interrogation techniques.

Based on Tan’s account, those MACC officers were probably worse than the police – their interrogation techniques include humiliation, threats (against the so-called witness and his loved ones), physical punishment (making Tan stand for 4 hours – what f* right did they have in this regard?), and racist taunts (Cina bodoh!).

Tan was taken on the same day as Teoh, and was only released the following at 1:30 pm, around the time when Teoh’s body was mysteriously discovered.

Given the similar circumstances I have doubts that Teoh was released earlier at 3:45 am, as claimed by MACC. Indeed I would not be at all surprised if Teoh was only “released”* around the same time …

* interpret this any old way you like

… which has been why the MACC “story” sounded implausible. Why would anyone just released from the nasty claws of MACC still loiter around hell’s hole!

Or, why would anyone take a nap before committing suicide?

I wouldn't bet against the "interrogation" continuing in the daylight morning, as Tan had experienced, right past noon.

But we are unlikely to ever get the true story – recall the police's notorious record of infamy over numerous cases of deaths in custody, where Tan Sri Siti Norma Yaakob, the former Chief Judge of Malaya, saw fit to express her deep concerns that out of 80 deaths in police custody occurring between January 2000 and December 2004, only 6 inquests, less than 10% of the deaths, were ever held.

She demanded to know why police saw it fit to decide that inquests were unnecessary in 22 cases of such deaths.

In fact, the Criminal Procedure Code specifically makes it mandatory to have inquests into deaths under police custody, yet the IGP had ignored his police force's arrogant, unaccountable nd repetitive violations of the Criminal Procedure Code.

And unbelievably, this IGP continues to enjoy the “confidence” of his political masters (or political servants) - see my post
Pagar makan padi - deaths in police custody.

We heard of Khairy Jamaluddin calling for a Royal Commission, but ….. only to clear the name of MACC.

We hear of the DPM rejecting a Royal Commission because he has decided the police force will conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, where nobody will cover up the truth ….. yeah, just like those other deaths in custody!

It's all about the so-called good name and credibility of MACC!

Has any of these people thought of a Malaysian citizen, poor Teoh Beng Hock, who died in such unbelievable unmitigated unforgiveable circumstances in the custody of MACC, and right at its building?

For anyone to believe that Teoh fell off the 14th floor accidentally or had committed suicide would be worse than those who actually believed someone was doing you a favour by physically and brutally beating the furious sh*t out of you in order to drive out Syaitan.

Maybe pigs can fly too!

The aim of the UMNO government now seems to be about protecting MACC rather than finding out the truth of Teoh’s death.

And this was what I had earlier meant by: It didn’t help when those lil’ Napoleons knew they won’t ever be held accountable.

  2. The important consideration will be :
    1. The MACC building is a security area. What are the security requirements before entering the building ?
Do you need a security card/password to gain entry and exit or just registration at the foyer ?

If it is a security area, how come Teo was allowed to wander and have a nap in the building / lounge unsupervised ?
Additionally, we were told there was no security camera in the building !

    2. If Teo had fell from the window, how come his body is just next to the building wall ?
A person falling down would have an angle of fall and should be a few distance away from the building wall. An experienced and professional forensic investigator can unravel this mystery.

The forensic investigator / pathologist will be able to judge from the injuries at what height Teo jumped down. If injuries are not consistent with a fall, then more doubts will surfaced. How were the windows at the different floor levels on the same side as Teo body was found. The forensic expert should take photographs of the windows before anyone tamper with the evidence in question.

    3. If stringent security was implemented, how can Teo gain acess to other parts of the building for his final leap ? How were the windows fixed ? Not possible to open if one does not apply force to break the window ?

    4. Chain of events should be stringed together to avoid the story being changed later to suit evidence.

  3. To say "mysterious" is to understate it.

  4. Why would a guy who is getting married the next day jump to his death especially he is aware that his bride-to-be is 2 month pregnant with his baby? Why would a guy who were busy calling his friends to confirm their attendance at his coming wedding dinner jump to his death? It doesn't make sense.

  5. The son of the MACC boss is still employed as a pilot with MAS despite being convicted in a court in Adelaide for child pornography / paedophile. Why wasn't this investigated by MACC officers? Different strokes for different folks?

  6. I am willing to stand up for justice for Teoh what about you. For too long death has occured while in detention. How can a friendly witness die while in custody. Shouldn't all the officers involved in the case be suspended immediately to ensure they do not temper with evidence.

Pathologist Promised By Selangor MB Did Not Turn Up

KLANG, July 17 (Bernama) -- The pathologist who was supposed to assist in carrying out the post-mortem on Teoh Beng Hock's body, as promised by the Selangor menteri besar, did not turn up at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) here Friday.

The post-mortem, which started at 11.30am and ended at 6.25pm, was carried out by a pathologist from the University of Malaya Medical Centre and another from HTAR.

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim told a news conference yesterday that the state government would appoint a pathologist to assist in the post-mortem.

Teoh's body was later claimed by family members to be brought to Alor Gajah in Melaka and expected to be buried at the Semenyih Memorial Park on Monday.

Teoh, 30, was found dead on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam at about 1.30pm yesterday after giving his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Teoh, a special assistant to Selangor state executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah, was assisting MACC's investigations pertaining to the misappropriation of allocations involving several Selangor assemblymen.

Meanwhile, in Alor Gajah, Teoh's family members had gathered at the house of Teoh's parents where his body was expected to arrive by midnight.

Teoh's father Teoh Leong Hwee, said they had made preparation to celebrate the registration of marriage between Teoh and fiancee Soh Cher Wei, 28, a teacher from Semenyeh, today.

"It is a sad day for all of us. We never expect this," he told reporters.

Leong Hwee, 62, a taxi driver, said he last met his son last week when they discuss about the preparation for the ceremony.

He said he knew that Teoh was called to assist in the MACC investigations and was shocked when told of his death yesterday.

Among those who visited Teoh's family were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and several DAP leaders.

  8. a man who's going to marry, who's going to have a child (his GF is reported pregnant), does he have tendency to jump off building to create scenario?

well, you cannot blame MACC for using humiliation, threats, taunts and torture to coerce suspect/witness since these methods are effective (they worked in guantanamo bay and abu ghraib, they will be sure worked in our MACC's abu ghraib don't they). who knows, more detainees and suspects will "sing like canary" when they learn the real truth (boasted by MACC integorators, perhaps) of this "incident"

  9. what's even more scary these officers threaten to vote PAS and go on strike (like the PDRM did with IPCMC) if the gov doesnt't have faith and attempt to arrest them. these officers are in line of duty in eradicating corruption (konon-nya) and such incident is collateral damage that's all, and this is very frightening thought if such thinking instills these officers.

i suggest protesters to gather the MACC building, identify such officers and throw faeces, stones and rotten eggs at them, at least there are actions rather receiving bashes and beatings from FRU.

Kajang municipal councillor Tan Boon Wah, who was also questioned by the MACC in relation to the same case, said he saw Teoh in the MACC pantry at 6am on Thursday.
