Nelson Mandala once called President Bush the most dangerous man in the world. Now Harry Belanfonte, one of calypso’s greatest singers and the first African American to win an Emmy, joined the ranks of Mandala to criticise President Bush. He called Bush the greatest terrorist in the world.
Belanfonte was among a delegation of Americans who visited Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. He assured Chavez that millions of Americans support the socialist revolution of. Venezuela. Among the American delegation were actor Danny Glover and Princeton University scholar Cornel West.
Belafonte is now serving as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. He has been outspoken in criticising the US embargo of Cuba. Belafonte accused US news media of falsely painting Chavez as a dictator, when in fact, he said, there is democracy. The Venzuelans are happy with Chavez. Though Chavez can be politically flamboyant I have to agree that the Venezuelans strongly support their popular President who has been using the nations's oil assets to improve their living condiutions, instead of the oil revenue going into the pockets of the oil barons and their Venezuielan henchmen.
Chavez has seized back Venezuela’s oil assets back from powerful American interests that were not making fair returns to the Venezuelans. Powerful US interests had instigated and plotted coups against Chavez, but unsuccessfully because Venezuelans supported their President. Chavez accused Bush of trying to overthrow him. He drew upon US intelligence documents that had been released to show the CIA knew that dissident officers planned the unsuccessful coup in 2002.
