Racist Japan

An independent investigator for the UN says what most Asians already know for donkey years, that the Japanese are bloody racist. Not only that, their brand of racism is deep and profound - on this, just ask those descendants of the citizens of Nanjing and a few other places Japanese visited in the last war.

Just a little aside - Has anyone ever observe how they behave at golf clubs. When a Japanese joins a club and he is the sole Japanese there, he is a bloody good bloke with the locals, but once he gets a few Japanese together, he avoids the locals like the plague.

Back to the report - The investigator said that the Japanese government does not recognise the depth of the problem. Or could it be being racists themselves, they have accommodated the racism as part and parcel of Nippon-ese national characteristics?

He noted that Japanese politicians used racist or nationalist themes like Malaysian politicians do. OK, I admit to adding in that last part ;-)

Their treatment of Koreans and Chinese Japanese have been terrible. Maybe that's why the Koreans and Chinese over on mainland Asia hate the Japanese guts as well, though, for a bloody different reason. The Japanese are also nasty to their indigenous tribes.

The UN rapporteur will recommend that Japan enact a law against discrimination, to be drawn up in consultation with minority groups.

If it refuses, Japan will be barred from getting one of the proposed UN Security Council permanent seats - ;-) just my little creative appendix to the recommendation.

  1. In Japan, there are only 2 races. Nihonjin and gaijin... meaning, Japanese and nonjapanese.

It's a form of nationality, if you please. :D

    So much for that. heh

  3. anonymous, I am not sure whether you have demanded proof from me or Chewxy. If from me, click the link on that post - it's in a different (purplish) colour, or go this (same link)

As for Chewxy - yes sir, just like Malaysia, we have only "Malaysians" ;-) and orang asing (foreigners)

  4. I don't think it's the kind of racism we know and despise, KTemoc.

I'm pretty sure the Japanese do not consciously see themselves as racist, or behave as if they are consciously racist.

What's probably happening is that they're so deeply-wrapped up in their own experience that they confuse that with the Real World.

That looks like a “deeply ingrained” racism from afar, yes, but the way to solve such a problem is exposure first, not legistlation.
