Bush Dishonour earlier Pledge to Sack Treasonous Leak

Valerie Plame, a covert CIA, had her identity deliberately revealed to the media in July 2003. The man who disclosed her CIA role was conservative columnist Robert Novak, who quoted unidentified administration sources. The disclosure killed off her career. Everyone knew the vindictive leaking of her CIA position was a punitive attack on her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson.

Wilson had been tasked by the CIA to investigate into an important justification of the Bush Administration for war against Iraq, that Saddam Hussein bought uranium from Niger. Wilson found that there was no Iraqi purchase nor any such request by Iraq, and accused the Bush of distorting intelligence to justify the war in Iraq.

When the scandal of the disclosure of Plame’s CIA position, a US criminal offence, hit the proverbial roof, Bush and White House spokesman Scott McClellan repeatedly vowed that anyone in the administration who was caught leaking classified information would be punished.

Bush stated: "If somebody did leak classified information, I'd like to know it, and we'll take the appropriate action. And this investigation is a good thing."

McClellan said: "If someone in this administration leaked classified information, they will no longer be a part of this administration, because that's not the way this White House operates. That's not the way this president expects people in his administration to conduct their business."

Karl Rove, Bush's blue-eyed boy, the architect of his dirty election campaign and chief schemer has been identified as the source who revealed Plame as a covert CIA agent.

Democrats and liberal interest groups demanded that Rove be sacked as promised. They want the president to explain why he was still allowing Rove to remain at a sensitive White House post while under suspicion of an act they labelled treasonous.

Bush and staff are keeping mum and refusing to honour his earlier pledge. As I blogged earlier in Prince of Darkness revealed!, Bush will not be willing to sack Karl Rove.

They have bunkered down in the White House, disconnected all phones and remained behind closed doors, just watching re-runs of Patton and Donald Duck on TV. OK, I just added this paragraph in as a bit of creative ending ;-)
