Japan Cleans Up WWII Mess in China

During WW II, Japan left a large number of chemical weapons in China that haven't been removed till today. The UN Chemical Weapons Convention requires Japan to assume responsibility for the mess and dispose of all chemical arms buried in China before 2007. Japan has allocated $1.9 billion for the job.

Still, that’s less than what Japan spends each year killing 440 minke whales for “scientific research”, which of course are immediately transported to Japan’s market - mind you, only to avoid wasting the meat of all that 440 slaughtered whales.
