Protesters clash with police and shops looted in Germany

Rioters looted shops in central Frankfurt late on Saturday as clashes erupted in German cities over the cost of living.

Besides Frankfurt - Germany's financial hub - there were incidents of violence in Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg, with police saying they used water cannon to disperse protesters targeting emergency workers with fireworks, stones and bottles.

Thousands joined largely peaceful demonstrations earlier in the day. They were organised by the campaign group Gen Z regelt - meaning "Gen Z takes charge" - to protest against underfunding in schools, the high cost of living, public spending cuts and military service.

The unrest in Germany follows similar youth-led mass protests in France, where more than 320,000 people also demonstrated on Saturday.

As night fell, demonstrations turned violent.

A large section of Frankfurt's main shopping street was closed off by police. A police spokesperson said many arrests were made in the city.

Authorities in Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin reported as many as 18,000 protesters, roughly half of what the organisers had estimated on their website. German media say tens of thousands protested in German cities on Saturday.

Gen Z regelt spokesperson Lina Friedrich said the demonstrations were "to fight for peace and freedom, rather than for war and coercion".

She said: "What matters most to us is better support for the health and education systems. We are against compulsory military service and we are in favour of a fairer distribution of the burden."

Europe's youth is on the march - but does anything actually unite them?

Thousands demonstrate in Paris as protests spread across Europe

On Saturday night Frankfurt police said "violent riots" were occurring in the city centre and that special police units had been deployed. The windows of several shops had been smashed and molotov cocktails were thrown at emergency services, police said.

Officials said the windows of a gun shop were smashed and that they had seized two weapons after arresting a suspect. People also broke into other shops, stealing trainers and other items, local media reported.

Roman Poseck, interior minister of Hesse state, of which Frankfurt is the biggest city, said that "around 100 clearly identified left-wing extremists" had infiltrated the protest in the city. He added that it was "shameful" how the protests had ended.

Poseck said: "We all have those images from France in our minds - looting, burning houses, burning police vehicles, and attacks on police officers... France must not be held up as a model in this regard."

Police said the situation calmed down overnight into Sunday in the city.

Similar instances took place in other German cities, following earlier largely peaceful demonstrations.

In Cologne, police said officers were attacked near the main train station, with bottles thrown and a bicycle launched.

Cologne's police chief Johannes Hermanns said it was "deeply saddening that young people who wanted to peacefully demonstrate for their future were infiltrated today by extremists who had nothing but violence in mind".

A smaller demonstration in the evening in Berlin - following larger protests in the day - resulted in 27 police officers being injured, and up to 56 people temporarily detained, Berlin police said.

In Hamburg, people dressed in black set off fireworks and set barricades on fire, with public broadcaster NDR reporting that 120 people were arrested.

The protests in Germany took place on the same day as other large-scale demonstrations in Europe.

In France, more than 320,000 people took part in a third consecutive weekend of largely peaceful protests in cities across the country, demanding action on the high cost of living and poor public services, especially in the education sector.

Thousands of police officers were deployed across France to deal with the demonstrations, and officers fired tear gas at demonstrators in some cities.

There were more than 500 arrests after clashes in Toulouse, Lyon and Marseille.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said a police officer had been injured by a molotov cocktail. Police in Paris said several hundred rioters had attacked security forces with projectiles.

Protests also took place in Italy, with some clashes between police and demonstrators in Rome and Turin.

In Portugal, police moved to clear a new tent camp assembled after thousands marched to protest against a rental bill that they argue could worsen a housing crisis in the country, where house prices have more than doubled over the past decade.

Mostly young protesters have recently taken to the streets in a swathe of European nations: France, Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Serbia and Albania.

While the specific demands vary from country to country, the protesters have largely focused on cost-of-living issues, such as access to housing, the quality of education and cuts to public services.

Violent protests are reminiscent of Hong Kong student violent protests except the Europeans are protesting against underfunding in schools, the high cost of living, public spending cuts and military service, and not political kerbau like the idiotic HK-ies (quiet as mice when under British colonial days), or like one of my visitors would desire to portray, an alleged sinister Palestinian agitated violence, merely to convince his shailok Overlord of his moronic loyalty, wakakaka.

  3. Still Not UK’s War?

BREAKING: Iran has declared Britain’s Royal Navy and Royal Air Force “terrorist organisations” and designated MI6 a “hostile group”.

Under the new measures, the Royal Navy and RAF are now formally treated as terrorist organisations under Iranian legislation, while MI6 falls within an Iranian law covering espionage and cooperation with states Tehran considers hostile.

The latest escalation comes as two men face prosecution over an alleged Iranian intelligence operation targeting RAF Fairford, the Gloucestershire base used by the US Air Force. All this came just days after Foreign Secretary Edward Miliband met Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi in New York on 24 September, shaking his hand and posing for a photograph together at the UN General Assembly.

The new measures announced today by Iran’s Foreign Ministry today, follow a decision by Tehran’s Supreme National Security Council and took effect immediately.

Iran says it is retaliating against Britain for bringing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps under the State Threats Act in July, and for what Tehran claims was UK assistance to US and Israeli military operations against Iran, including access to British-controlled bases and logistical facilities.

It is an extraordinary inversion of reality from the brutal Islamic regime whose Revolutionary Guards have been responsible for decades for sponsoring terrorism and destabilising activity abroad.

Meanwhile, Craig and Lindsay Foreman, a British couple in their 50s from from East Sussex, have been imprisoned in Iran for nearly two years, since January 2025. He is a carpenter and she is a psychologist/life coach. They are now serving 10-year sentences for espionage – charges they deny. Their appeal was rejected, and they remain in custody.

Their family met Foreign Secretary Edward Miliband on 27 October and is pressing Britain to go further, including formally declaring their detention arbitrary, granting diplomatic protection and considering action at the International Court of Justice.

🚨 EUROPE, 2026. HAVE WE LEARNED NOTHING FROM HISTORY?

A store in Stockholm, Sweden, is displaying a sign reading “JUDE FREE ZONE” inside a Star of David.

    Let that sink in.

The Nazis had a word for this: JUDENFREI, meaning “free of Jews.”

It was used to describe places from which Jews had been expelled, deported, or murdered during the Holocaust.

81 years after the defeat of Nazi Germany, we are seeing this language displayed in a European shop window.

And right next to it? A sign proudly declaring an “Apartheid Free Zone.”

This is what happens when hatred of Israel becomes a justification for openly targeting Jews.

This is not criticism of Israel. This is the normalization of Nazi antisemitism under the disguise of political activism.

Where are Sweden’s political leaders? Where are those who constantly lecture the world about human rights and tolerance?

    Europe once promised NEVER AGAIN.

Yet here we are, watching the language of the 1930s return to the streets of Europe.

History is not repeating itself by accident. It is repeating itself because too many people are choosing to look away.

    1. mfer, indeed History is not repeating itself by accident. It is repeating itself because too many people are choosing to look away until it's too late.

Thus, the recurring of the rejection of Jews by the old Europe!

I call on the Swiss 🇨🇭 police to show restraint and work towards a two-state solution in which Zurich is the undivided capital of a future Palestinian state.

84 years after French police rounded up 74,000 French Jews and sent them to Auschwitz, and one year after France recognized a Palestinian state they can start thinking about the horrific choices they have made.

🚨 Israel FM: "We reiterate our call on the French authorities to exercise maximum restraint, refrain from any disproportionate use of force against peaceful protesters in densely populated neighborhoods, and return to dialogue. The two-state solution remains the only viable path to a just and lasting peace in France."

And What Has A Church To Do With Student Protes?

The Church of Sainte-Madeleine in Albi, southwestern France, has been vandalized as looters and rioters took over the city during the nationwide violent protests.

Several intruders entered the church searching for gold, silver, and other valuables. They damaged a statue of Saint James the Greater, ripped out and destroyed a tabernacle, and searched the building for money and precious objects.

After failing to find anything valuable, they apparently left with only candles.

Parish priest Father Gabriel Cassas said he was shocked by the damage but would keep the church open.
