ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Fire and Rescue Department has confirmed a tragic discovery after six family members, reported missing since Saturday (July 5), were found inside a car submerged in Sungai Korok.
Senior Fire Superintendent Ahmad Aminuddin Abd Rahim, Zone 1 Chief of the department, said the victims were found inside their car during a search operation earlier on Monday (July 7).
"We have successfully retrieved the bodies of four victims and brought them to the riverbank. The remaining two, believed to be the husband and wife, have yet to be removed from the vehicle," Astro Awani quoted him as saying when met at the scene on Monday.
Ahmad Aminuddin said firefighters faced difficulties in the recovery process and had to cut open the vehicle’s roof to remove the victims.
Earlier reports stated that six individuals, including a six-month-old baby, were feared missing after losing contact with relatives on Saturday.
The victims have been identified as Mohd Azim Ezzat Ishak, 32, his wife Nurul Hidayah Khalijah Razman Effendy, 31, and their four children aged between six months and nine years.
The family was last seen after spending the night at a relative’s house in Taman Aman, Jitra, and failed to return to their home in Jerlun.
Kubang Pasu OCPD Supt Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim, confirmed that a police report had been lodged regarding the disappearance.
Authorities are still working to recover the remaining bodies and determine the cause of the incident.
