Siti Kasim challenges PAS
MP to repeat claims
outside Dewan
The lawyer-activist says Jerlun MP Abd Ghani Ahmad should not hide behind the immunity he has in the lower house.
She said if Jerlun MP Abd Ghani Ahmad was “brave”, he should repeat his allegations outside Parliament so she could sue him.
“You know I can’t sue you if you make such comments in Parliament,” she said in a video posted on Instagram, tonight, referring to the immunity enjoyed by MPs when debating issues in the lower house.
“So I challenge you to make it (the accusations) outside. Let’s see if you can prove when and where I (supposedly) had insulted Islam.”
Yesterday, Ghani questioned the government on its plans to curb “liberal” Muslims, like Siti whom he claimed had insulted Islam.
He said Siti had previously called for tahfiz schools to be shut down and disputed the controversy surrounding the sale of socks bearing the word “Allah”.
“So what will the government do to curb such liberal beliefs, such as those espoused by Siti who had openly insulted Islam?
Ghani also accused liberal Muslims of creating a “dangerous trend” through their interpretations of religious texts and espousing beliefs that he said contradicted the fundamental tenets of Islam.
He said these “liberal” views included assertions that all faiths were equal and for people of different religions to celebrate each other’s festivities.
Siti went on to suggest every MP attend a class on the Federal Constitution, claiming the document contained the word “liberal”.
“So I am a proud liberal. Someone like me (a liberal) is mentioned in our constitution.”
