Nuclear energy in Malaysia and the notorious Malaysian maintenance

I recently and casually asked a Sabah Electricty engineer if they would be using nuclear as power generation. Sabah energy exclude nuclear due to concern on contamination.

TNB used to have two or three floors dedicated to possible use of nuclear in MY fuel policy in Dua Sentral in Brickfield. I think the group has been minimized already.

Tukartiub will cried ahpaaa and ahmaa if MY consider it, which we did but who is going to host it...perhaps we will have a long way to go following Fukushima, Chernobyl, 3 Miles Island, Nagasaki and Hiroshima...

Not sure am any better but if end result cheaper electricity, why not if a case for its safety can be made.

  1. Nuclear energy is like "fire", a good servant BUT a bad master. What many fear is not so much the consequences of nuclear energy per se (it's just another form of fire) but the notorious Malaysian maintenance

And Germany will be kicking themselves silly for closing down their last nuclear reactor this year I believe in chasing green energy castle in the air...

  1. Yes, undeniably on the maintenance culture thing. To illustrate...

Last night, when to KLIA a little early at about 11pm to survey the area while waiting to pick up family member coming home from oversea. I guess most people travelling to KLIA for departure or arrival approaches.

Here is the thing, the road signage look so rundown discrepit in the dark. For èxample, the green departure and yellow arrival road signage over the gantry just at the bend to the main terminal building, the final impression for any visitors departing the country via land transportation, covered in dark stuffs at some section, had some difficulty properly reading the information on the signage with the light from the headlamp of the car. Other signage look equally bad, some are cracked between the plate line, others can see paint peeled off at the corner edges, street light at road around the long term open parking towards the passport office and several other area were not on. The only signage that look good were those put for ehailing vehicles, not that many years ago?

I think 4 passes round the main terminal building, both arrival and departure lane to survey and plan how to avoid the crowded arrival area with cars waiting in the public pickup lane. Police would make a killing with summons for vehicle waiting there.

The questions are, if I were to critizes on the maintenance culture, how would I criticized?

    1. Who was responsible for the area outside of the terminal building?
    2. How to do periodic maintenance on roads and signages and others that I wasn't paying attention but ought to be in responsibility list? Road sign, every month, a technical stuffs ought to do visual survey in the day and in the dark and provide a report, like the toilet maintenance card in public toilet.
    3. Either signboard gets clean every month, six months or annually. Any signboards showing aging or need repair, ought to be planned for.

Also, road sign ought to have a small logo or indicator indicating which agency is responsible for it so that the public can report on it, like what is happening via council level. Signboard can be placed in discreet manner and in a good sense to show who is responsible for which area, like boundary marker identifying up to which location the highway belong to and another belong to local authority.

The question that came to mind was, are those signagae from 1997/98 when KLIA first opened? Just wondering
