KUALA LUMPUR
The number of flood victims in Kedah increased this morning, while Penang saw a drop, and the situation remained the same in Perlis, Selangor and Perak.

In Kedah, the number of evacuees rose to 7,494 as of 8am, from 6,760 at 8pm yesterday.

According to the state social welfare department, the evacuees from 2,445 families are being placed at 42 temporary relief centres in six districts.

Kota Setar district recorded the highest number of evacuees at 3,292, followed by Kubang Pasu (1,811), Pendang (1,127), Pokok Sena (952), Kuala Muda (184) and Bandar Baharu (128).

The irrigation and drainage department said five rivers in Kedah are at a dangerous level.

They are Sungai Padang Terap in Kepala Batas; Sungai Bata in Kampung Bata, Kubang Pasu; Sungai Anak Bukit in Taman Aman; the river at TAR Bridge; and Sungai Kedah at Jambatan Lebuhraya, Kota Setar.

In Penang, the number of evacuees dropped from 427 last night to 259 this morning.

The Penang disaster management committee secretariat said the evacuees from 72 families are seeking shelter at five relief centres in Seberang Perai.

In Selangor, 101 victims from 36 families are still being housed at a relief centre at the Tanjong Karang Farmers’ Management Institute in Kuala Selangor.

In Perlis, the number of flood victims remains unchanged, with 90 still at three relief centres in Kangar and Arau, and in Perak, 16 flood victims remain at the relief centre at SK Changkat Lobak in Bagan Serai.
