Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain stressed that the investigation into Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) is being conducted by the book.

He dismissed claims that the authorities are being overly eager, emphasising that the probe is thorough and strictly complies with the law.

“Our investigations are based on the law and we are not being overzealous.

“We are also receiving assistance from the Inland Revenue Board,” he told Malaysiakini.

Earlier, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan urged authorities not to adopt an overzealous approach, pointing out that GISBH still has positive attributes such as its extensive business network.

Similarly, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim echoed this view yesterday, arguing that while the group may have erred in their interpretation of Islam, it is unjust to destroy their livelihoods.

Bernama recently reported that several businesses linked to GISBH have suffered a sharp decline in customers due to allegations of child abuse and religious deviation involving the group.

The report noted that businesses associated with GISBH, including bakeries, restaurants, and laundrettes in Kelantan, Pahang, Selangor, and Perak have been shuttered.

On Sept 11, the police raided 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan operated by GISBH, rescuing 402 children after allegations of child abandonment, sexual assault, and harassment were lodged.

Nineteen individuals, including GISBH CEO Nasirudin Mohd Ali and his wife, were remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation on Sept 19.

On that note, Razarudin said the police will continue collaborating with other agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation.

“Yes, some premises (linked to GISBH) have been closed and our investigation extends beyond the charity homes, and with the IRB’s assistance, we are ensuring a thorough process,” he added.

Malicious claims

Separately, Razarudin dismissed allegations on social media accusing several senior police officers of protecting GISBH’s activities, calling them baseless and malicious.

He described the claims as slanderous accusations made by irresponsible parties using a fake account.

“We are aware that this fake account is the source of the defamatory claims, and the allegations linking police officers with GISBH are entirely false,” Bernama reported him as saying.

Recently, a video went viral on TikTok, accusing several senior police officers of protecting and receiving money from the company for personal gain.
