Ismail Haniyeh killed by bomb planted in Iran guesthouse: Report

Ismail Haniyeh killed by bomb planted in Iran guesthouse: Report

Published: Aug 2, 2024 12:32 PM

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed on Wednesday by a bomb planted in the guesthouse he was staying in Tehran, Iran, months before the deadly blast, according to The New York Times.

The report quoted seven Middle Eastern officials, including two Iranians, and an American official, confirming the matter - dispelling previous claims that the assassination was carried out via an Israeli airstrike.

According to the report, the explosive device was smuggled into, and hidden in the guesthouse run and protected by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in an upscale neighbourhood in Tehran, at least two months prior to the blast.

The slaying has turned the spotlight on the intelligence and security lapse in the supposedly tightly guarded compound, which is often used for secret meetings, and retreats to house VIP guests, including Ismail.

Top officials, who spoke to NYT on condition of anonymity, remained clueless about when or how the bomb was smuggled into, and planted inside the residence, before being remotely detonated on Wednesday, killing Ismail and his bodyguard.

The explosion, they said, rattled the building, shattered some windows and caused the partial collapse of an exterior wall.

The daily also shared a photograph of the said building, which shows the extent of the damage.

While Israel is yet to publicly acknowledge responsibility for the killing, the country’s intelligence officials have reportedly briefed the US and other Western governments on the details of the operation immediately after the incident, said the report.

Targeted attack

According to NYT, the bomb was set off about 2am local time on Wednesday in the room where Ismail and his bodyguard were staying, and both were confirmed dead by a medical team which rushed to the scene immediately after the blast.

Ziyad al-Nakhalah, the leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, who was staying next door to ground zero, escaped unscathed in the incident, which showed the precisely targeted attack on Ismail, two of the Iranian officials said.

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was immediately briefed on the incident, summoned a Supreme National Security Council meeting within hours, where he issued an order to strike Israel in retaliation.

Just a day before his assassination, Ismail was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran’s new president Masoud Pezeshkian, where both appeared in good spirits, smiling and hugging each other, before raising their hands together as a victory sign.

Two Iranian officials described the attack as similar in tactic to the remote-controlled AI robot weapon that Israel’s foreign intelligence agency Mossad used to assassinate Iran’s top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in Tehran, in 2020.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has described Ismail’s killing as a “heinous murder”.

Hamas' military wing leader killed

Israel’s army said Hamas’ top military commander Mohammad Deif was killed in an Israeli air raid in Southern Gaza on July 13.

“We can now confirm: Mohammad Deif was eliminated,” Al Jazeera reported the Israeli military saying yesterday.

The report, however, quoted a Hamas member saying Deif’s death was unconfirmed.

The elusive Deif was reportedly targeted by Israeli warplanes in an attack that killed at least 90 people and wounded 300 others - all displaced Palestinians in al-Mawasi, an Israeli-designated “safe zone” west of Khan Younis.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant reportedly took to X to hail the death of “the Osama bin Laden of Gaza” as a significant milestone in the process of dismantling Hamas as a military and governing authority in Gaza.

“Hamas terrorists may surrender or they will be eliminated. Israel’s defence establishment will pursue Hamas terrorists - both the planners and the perpetrators of the 07.10 (Oct 7) massacre. We will not rest until this mission is accomplished,” he wrote.

The 58-year-old Deif was one of the founders of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, in the 1990s.

He is reportedly responsible for the group’s complex network of tunnels and its bomb-making expertise and has topped Israel’s most wanted list for decades.

Deif reportedly survived seven previous assassination attempts by Israel - the most recent in 2021. His wife, seven-month-old son and three-year-old daughter were killed in an Israeli air raid in 2014.

He was among a three-man military council that planned the Oct 7 raid on southern Israel that killed 1,139 people, and over 200 were taken captive.

The ensuing war by Israel on Gaza has caused at least 39,480 deaths and 91,128 injuries.

AN EXTREMELY TREACHEROUS SITUATION IN THE MIDDLE EAST

In the past 24 hours something very significant has happened in the Middle East. The Israelis have officially denied involvement in the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Teheran. Israeli military spokesman Admiral Daniel Haggari has stated that other than the Israeli strike in Beirut (which killed that top Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukri) there were no other Israeli military flight operations 'anywhere else in the Middle East at that time'. Referring to the Ismail Haniyeh assassination in Teheran.

When events like this assassination take place, and if the Israelis are involved, their reaction will be :

1. acknowledge their role (which they did in the killing of Fuad Shukri in Beirut).
2. neither acknowledge nor deny their role, for example the killing of the Iranian nuclear scientist Fakhrizadeh in Teheran.  This usually indicates Israeli involvement.
3. deny their involvement in the operation, which they have said so in the Ismail Haniyeh assassination.

It is also a very wrong time for the Israelis to want to assassinate Ismail Haniyeh because there are still over 150 Israeli hostages being held by Hamas in the Gaza. As the Qatari prime minister has said, how can you negotiate ceasefires if you kill the chief negotiator from the Hamas? This is a valid point. Why kill Ismail Haniyeh when there are still over 150 Israelis kidnapped and held by Hamas. That would also be very reckless and irresponsible behaviour by the Israelis. What if Hamas takes revenge and kills the remaining Israeli hostages? The Israeli government would face serious criticism from the Israeli public. Benjamin Netanyahu may be forced to step down as prime minister.

There was no air strike, drone strike or missile strike from outside the building. Ismail Haniyeh was killed by a bomb detonated from inside the bedroom in which he was sleeping.

The Islamic Republican Guards Corps report directly to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.  And the IRGC had full control over that highly secure safe house where Haniyeh was killed.

And if the bomb was planted TWO MONTHS earlier it certainly indicates collusion by the IRGC. Because  with the Mossad having assassinated so many high profile targets INSIDE Iran and around the world, it is quite impossible to imagine that an elite military unit like the IRGC would not have performed security sweeps inside Haniyeh's quarters as well as over the whole building FOR TWO MONTHS!!  And since October 7th, Ismail Haniyeh was Israel's Public Enemy No. 1.

All the indications point towards the Ayatollahs. Ali Khamenei immediately said that Iran will attack Israel directly in retaliation for the killing of Haniyeh. He has been pushing for this agenda from the moment Haniyeh was killed.

Why would the Ayatollahs want to kill Ismail Haniyeh? To prolong the war in Gaza and distract the attention of the Iranian people away from the crap situation the Ayatollahs' have created in Iran. The Iranian people are suffering.

And referring again to the statement by the prime minister of Qatar, it is also possible that Ismail Haniyeh was moving towards accepting a ceasefire. Obviously others did not agree with this. They wanted him dead. Plus the Iranians have given Hamas hundreds of millions of US Dollars - not all of which have been spent in Gaza.

So if the Mossad did not penetrate the IRGC's heavily secured safehouse in Teheran, it could not be the CIA, the Saudis or the Egyptians. This means it was indeed an inside job. The IRGC killed Ismail Haniyeh. The IRGC reports directly to the Ayatollah Khamenei.

The killing of Ismail Haniyeh in Teheran could become a watershed moment in the history of the Middle East.

AFGHAN TALIBAN ACCUSE AYATOLLAH ALI KHAMENEI OF KILLING ISMAIL HANIYEH

The Taliban in Afghanistan are saying that Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was behind the killing of Ismail Haniyeh. Click on the link below.

DID THE AYATOLLAHS KILL ISMAIL HANIYEH?

This is the house in Teheran where Ismail Haniyeh stayed and where he was killed. His room was on the top floor. They have covered up the damaged room.

It has been three days since he was blown up and yet the Iranians have still not released any information about the cause of the explosion.

Media reports now say that the explosion was not caused by a rocket, missile or drone. They say the explosion came from inside the house, from a bomb that was planted inside the room. The explosion blew outwards and that is why they have covered up the damaged part with that cloth.

The bomb was recently planted or it could have been planted earlier. I doubt the bomb was planted TWO MONTHS earlier because the battery would have died in two months. (Any bomb would require some battery power). Also how could they guarantee that Ismail Haniyeh would even turn up in Teheran TWO MONTH'S LATER to attend the inauguration of the new president? That is stretching it.

The house was a guest house which had been used by Ismail Haniyeh before when he visited Teheran. The house was under the management of the Islamic Republican Guards. Only the Guards had access to the premises.

The Israelis have not acknowledged any involvement in Haniyeh's death.

A missile fired from outside Iran does not sound possible because it would have to be a long range cruise missile which would have destroyed the entire house. A smaller missile would have to be fired from an aircraft including a UAV or helicopter. This idea is also being dismissed. Or that a missile was fired from a neighbouring building.

The explosion that occurred was small and with a small kill radius. You can see in the picture  there is almost no other damage to the house. Possibly the bomb was planted exactly under Haniyeh's bed.  Just enough to kill him.

Who and why?

To backtrack a little, there is a conspiracy theory that Qassem Soleimani was betrayed by the Ayatollahs who did not like the fact that Soleimani was getting too powerful inside Iran. So they leaked his exact whereabouts to the Americans and the Americans blew him up.

It is possible that Ismail Haniyeh was leaning towards a ceasefire in Gaza and the Ayatollahs were not agreeable. Haniyeh's death certainly destroys any possibility of a ceasefire for a long time to come.

It has been three days and the Iranians have not made any official statements about the explosion that killed Haniyeh. By now their forensics teams would have identified the explosives used,  and they would know if it was a bomb, missile or drone. They would know many details. There is some cover up going on.

This is the Middle East. It is a snake pit. You dont know who will kill whom, who will get blown up next and who will betray whom.

I always say just avoid these people. You get involved with these people and you are only looking for trouble.

  1. Most likely a deadly power struggle in Hamas, with one side backed by Ayatollahs, conveniently blamed on Israel.
