I read with confusion media headlines captioning an elderly man threatening to shoot an Umno Youth Leader. I thought it was a misleading 'clickbait.' However, I wrongly assumed, as it was indeed the uncle who was poorly arrested under vague circumstances, as I read in the police press statement.

However, let the police gather more information to investigate the case further, and I do hope justice is served fairly to him.

To add my two cents worth, I have a feeling that the uncle was only trying to voice his frustration on Dr Akmal Saleh's uproar to destroy racial harmony. It's just like any coffee shop casual talks. Common, it's just private talks and not mass provocation to cause public harm.

I don't think he intended to shoot, but he meant indirectly to advise that Akmal Saleh stops provoking the KK Mart boycott issue related to 'sensitive socks with offending word'.

It looks like now everyone and anyone can make police reports on hearsays. Will the court case judgment be sustainable against the accuser without concrete evidence?

Nowadays, we have to be careful about what we say to strangers as our words may be twisted to mean what we don't intend to happen but for the sake of casual conversations.

The following is the Press Statement by OCPD of Melaka Tengah:

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Christopher Patit released a press statement that a police report has been made by a complainant on March 26, 2024 at 10.21am. He highlighted that the workshop owner expressed dissatisfaction with Dr Akmal Saleh regarding the KK Mart issue while he was at a car workshop in Bukit Duyong on March 20, 2024 at 3pm.

The suspect allegedly commented that the UMNO Youth Leader talks too much about the KK Mart issue and that 'one day he will be shot'. Despite the so-called threat, the complainant chose to keep silent and reported the incident at Kandang Police Station on March 26 morning due to concern for Akmal Saleh's personal safety.

ACP Christopher Patit mentioned that the suspect was arrested in the Kandang area around 4pm on the same day where the report was made.

The investigating officer is gathering more information related to this case under criminal intimidation, which falls on Section 506 of the Penal Code. If found guilty, the offender could face up to seven years in prison or fines, or both.

However, the suspect was released later on police bail due to health reasons.
