Ridhuan Tee: Chinese parents won’t send their kids to vernacular schools with majority Malay pupils

RENOWNED Muslim convert preacher Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah has hit out at the viralling of Chinese vernacular schools with big Malay pupil population when the reality is that these schools “are meant to be closed but cannot be closed because the ultra kiasu (his popular reference for chauvinist) authorities are afraid of losing votes”.

Pointing to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chi Sin in Batu Kikir, Bahau, Negri Sembilan which recently made headlines after all its newly-enrolled 20 Standard One pupils comprised Malay children, the academician claimed that Chinese parents will shy away from sending their kids to schools with majority Malay children.

“Why do Chinese parents choose the nearby SJKC (Chinese national-type primary schools) that has more Chinese pupils there than SJKC that has many Malay children.” he penned in a recent Facebook rebuttal.

Apa tujuan tonjolkan berita SJKC tetapi majoriti murid Melayu

“Can’t we still not understand why? The answer is very simple: if they mix a lot with the Malays, they will follow the Malay behaviour and the children will not be able to master good Mandarin.”

Earlier, the political science lecturer of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin in Kuala Terengganu contended that as the majority of Batu Kikir residents are Malays, “they’re obviously happy” to send their children to SJKC Chi Sin while the Chinese have either moved to other areas or that there is other “more Chinese-majority SJKCs in the vicinity”.

SJK(C) Chi Sin in Batu Kikir, Bahau, Negri Sembilan has only 66 pupils with 62 being Bumiputera.

Below are more verbatim thoughts of Ridhuan who is also the Muafakat Nasional deputy president on Chinese vernacular schools which both him and fellow academician Prof Datuk Teo Kok Seong claimed to be breeding ground of intolerance leading to disunity especially among the new generation Malaysians.

I still remember the year 2020 when news came out that a total of 10 pupils started their Standard One learning session at SJKC) Sin Min in Lubok China (in Melaka) whereby nine of them were non-Chinese. There was only one Chinese and one Indian pupil each in the single Standard One class apart from the Malay children.

They are part of a total of 52 Standard One to Six pupils at the school with 39 of them Malay, 10 Chinese and three Indian pupils. This is another example of a small populated Chinese school with Malay pupils being the majority.

Funnier was that SJKC Choon Hwa in Hulu Langat, Selangor – some time ago – only had 23 pupils of whom 22 were Malays and only one Chinese. Bear in mind that SJKCs which lack pupils cannot be closed due to opposition from Dong Zong (leader of Chinese education movement).

Reportedly, this SJKC has got a much bigger new settlement in Pandan Indah which is fully funded by the government. But this new territory is carefully fenced off, to prevent trespassing or disappearing from the radar.

Amazingly, SJKCs that lack pupils cannot be closed even if there is no single Chinese pupil there. At the same time, they will insist that the schools be replaced with a new, much larger area/space.

By right, the need to do so does not arise at all because there are already several SJKCs in the vicinity but that’s the attitude of the ‘ultra kiasu’ – you can only increase but cannot decrease. Are we still blind?

Are we still looking for the answers raised by Prof Teo Kok Seong to the problem of integration in our country?

The fact before our eyes is that of under-populated SJKCs whereby majority of their pupils being Malay children and are not receiving the response of the Chinese because there are other SJKC choices with majority Chinese pupils.

Do we still want to continue questioning Prof Teo on this matter? – March 25, 2024

    Mfering brainless fart!

How about if they (the Malay pupils) mix a lot with the Chinese, they will follow the Chinese behaviour and the children will not be able to master good bahasa melayu?

Moreover, the later will most likely the eventual outcome as these Malay pupils & families have already psychologically prepared as they r been enrolled in the Chinese school.

The inferiority infested ketuanan freaks know & r afraid of this setting trend.
