Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said the ‘misleading’ report could lead to disharmony in the community.

PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has expressed his disappointment over a report which was published by news portal Harapan Daily on Friday.

In a statement issued by the Pahang palace, the sultan said the report, which was critical of PAS, was “slanderous” and could lead to disharmony in the community.

“His Highness insisted that his decree made during the Maran district development briefing session at the Chenor Agricultural Academy was not as reported by the news portal.

“The statement was not directed at any political party and was general in nature. It was meant to remind all that the purity of mosques, which are places of worship for Muslims, should always be maintained,” he said.

In its report, under the headline “Pahang sultan warns against PAS practices”, Harapan Daily said Sultan Abdullah had warned the people of Pahang against practising “things propagated by PAS such as takfiri practices and praying behind two imams”.

“Takfiri” refers to individuals or groups within Islam who accuse others of apostasy or disbelief, often using extreme interpretations of Islamic teachings to label others as “kafir”, or infidels.

Harapan Daily claims to be a portal established to support the unity government and deliver its message to the public and supporters alike.

Sultan Abdullah reminded all media practitioners, be it print or online portals, to check their news coverage before interpreting them, in order to prevent their reports from being distorted from its actual meaning.

“Journalistic ethics must be adhered to at all times,” he said.
