Unintentional hilariously named Restoran Vargina elicits plenty of laughs from netizens

A PHOTO uploaded by netizen Vincent Cheah on ‘Bro, Don’t Like That La, Bro Fans’ Facebook (FB) page has caused much hilarity and more than a few raised eyebrows among netizens.

The snapshot which has since been deleted from FB depicts a typical restaurant serving Muslim-friendly food but with a name unintentionally designed to make passers-by look twice.

Purportedly named after its owner, the eatery is located in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. It is said that the restaurant is a local institution for Sentul folk with a number of branches in the Klang Valley (thankfully, FocusM managed to take some screenshots before the post was deleted).

The name of the restaurant was just one alphabet removed from a lady’s anatomy and this led to close to 700 mirthful comments. Here’s a small sample:

One netizen chided that perhaps the restaurant’s speciality was the famed spell-binding nasi kangkang (literally crotch rice which is intended as a love potion).

Of course, plenty pointed out this was why learning English was imperative.

Of course, it did not take long for the light-hearted discussion to descend into race polemics which FocusM will avoid repeating the divisive comments.

It is indeed perplexing that the municipal authorities did not see fit “to advise” the restaurant owner of the double entendre contained in the moniker. Or maybe the business owner saw it as a selling point – or perhaps – they just wanted to use the family name as many have suggested.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

In the meantime, Malaysians should all learn to have a chuckle and not let everything descend into a ‘us v them’ narrative.

Bon Appetit everyone … – Jan 23, 2024

  1. "Vargina" is also surname in Europe, of Slavic /Russian origin I think.
If they move to Western Europe or North America they may be tempted to change their surname.😁😁😁
