“Ulat parking” a menace to vehicle owners, netizens demand action from DBKL

MANY vehicle owners will have faced this issue before, especially in crowded and congested city centre areas where parking spots are at a premium.

The age-old menace of the unofficial ulat parking will demand a hefty fee for “looking after” your car, which is nothing more than thinly-veiled threats.

This was the case of TikTok user @ballerina391 who uploaded a video showing a long deep scratch spanning almost the length of her car.

She claimed that she had parked near the Maybank branch in the Bukit Bintang area and was confronted by these ulat parking who demanded a RM15 parking fee claiming they “owned” all the parking spots in the vicinity.

To her credit, the young lady had refused but ultimately paid an even heavier price as the video shows. The clip had since garnered over 300,000 views and over a thousand comments with many netizens sympathising with the poster and urging her to report the incident to the authorities.

Many netizens grumbled that the situation in the area has been like this for years and that the authorities have not deemed it fit to take any sort of action.

Some netizens suggested that these parking touts were under the protection of a syndicate, hence the blatant extortion of hapless motorists.

There were enough comments lamenting the lack of action from the authorities, meaning that the scourge of these ulat parking will continue to be a menace to vehicle owners.

  1. Same problem arose in Penang.
MBPB stops collecting parking fees after 6 pm. , so legally all parking in MBPP Car Parks is free after 6 pm..
However , in some highly popular areas , unofficial "collectors" move in, claiming as "their area", sometimes exorbitant prices demanded.
