PETALING JAYA: Sarawak tourism minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has slammed the Kedah menteri besar for making derogatory remarks about federal tourism minister Tiong King Sing.

Karim said Sanusi Nor’s remarks at the Kedah state assembly on Wednesday were unbecoming of a menteri besar especially when it was aimed at another leader of a different faith.

Sanusi was reported to have remarked that Tiong looked like a “pot-bellied, bald deity”.

Karim, a vice-president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), the mainstay of the ruling Sarawak coalition, said Sanusi should not ridicule adherents of another faith.

“How would he feel if those of a different faith were to ridicule the way Muslims pray? If he (Sanusi) would get angry, I am sure that those who hear the menteri besar’s remarks would get upset too,” he told FMT.

He said someone of Sanusi’s stature should not make such remarks in the state assembly and he should be aware of the standing orders.

Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported Tiong as saying that Sanusi had lost his mind in making such remarks. “He (Sanusi) does not even leave a deity alone,” said Tiong, who is also from Sarawak.

Sanusi’s remarks were part of his criticism of Tiong for allegedly not providing any feedback during their meeting with representatives from the Thai government in Southern Thailand last month.

  1. Why are these people afraid of the truth. Just stand naked in front of the mirror and see the effect what greed and indiscipline have on the person. Shameless.
