Reward motorists who don’t break laws, says MP
Perikatan Nasional’s Rosol Wahid says such incentives will encourage road users to be law-abiding citizens.
Hulu Terengganu MP Rosol Wahid said the government could offer law-abiding motorists discounts when they renew their road tax or driver’s licence.
KUALA LUMPUR: An opposition MP has suggested that the government should reward road users who have not broken traffic laws.
Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) said the incentive would help encourage the public to be law-abiding citizens.
“If we are issuing fines for traffic offences or dragging wrongdoers to court, I propose we reward those who have not broken any laws,” he said when debating the 2024 budget in the Dewan Rakyat.
Rosol, a former deputy minister, said if a motorist did not run the red light or get caught for speeding for an entire year, they should be given a discounted rate when they renew their road tax or driver’s licence.
“Maybe the government can offer a 50% discount or waive the fees. This will encourage drivers to obey the law.”
In April, it was reported that a total of RM21.36 million in outstanding traffic fines were collected within three days after police offered a special reduction to RM50.

As good citizens, obey the traffic rules - that will save your and others' lives while on the road.
Don't expect rewards in every blardy issue.
Secondly, I oppose strongly the discounting of fines. Blardy sham.
