Malaysiakini apologises, Guan Eng, 9 reps deny article

Editor’s note: We have retracted the earlier articles regarding the meeting with the three assemblypersons after discovering some errors in reporting what transpired at the meeting. We apologise for the mistake.

DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng and nine Penang state assemblypersons have denied a Malaysiakini article alleging an internal push to replace state chief minister Chow Kon Yeow.

They also denied that any of them had spoken to Malaysiakini.

Malaysiakini has retracted the article after discovering certain errors in the report based on the meeting with the three assemblypersons.

The statement by Lim and the nine assemblypersons is as follows:

“We, the undersigned, are the 10 ordinary Penang state assemblypersons who do not hold any government posts in the Penang state government. (either as chief minister, exco member or political secretary to the chief minister)

“Malaysiakini published a report today titled, ‘Internal DAP push to oust Chow, re-install Lim as Penang CM’, based on three unnamed state assemblypersons purportedly from Penang.

“This article is malicious and unfair by not mentioning who the three state assemblypersons are, thereby, putting all the 10 ordinary state assemblypersons from Penang under unnecessary public suspicion.

“We solemnly attest that we have not spoken to Malaysiakini on this article. To attribute the report to any of us three assemblypersons is untrue and false. Thus, we are unable to ascertain where Malaysiakini get their baseless information from.

“Candidature for seats and posts is decided by the party and we will respect the party’s decision. We will not be drawn into any attempt by irresponsible parties to divide and distract us from our objective of serving the people and ensuring Penang’s future.

“Winning the coming state elections is paramount to prosper Penang and strengthen political stability, as well as fortify the unity government in Putrajaya for the next five years.
