FMT:

Peja denies PN is gathering support to topple govt

Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu says Perikatan Nasional will strive to be a credible opposition.

Ahmad Faizal Azumu said Perikatan Nasional was focused on retaining Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah as well as capturing Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan in the upcoming state elections.

GOMBAK: Ahmad Faizal Azumu has denied speculation that Perikatan Nasional (PN) has statutory declarations (SDs) from 126 MPs supporting the coalition.

The Bersatu deputy president also denied that PN had been gathering these SDs in a bid to overthrow the unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Instead, Faizal, who is known as Peja, said PN is focused on retaining Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah in the upcoming state elections as well as finding ways to capture Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan from Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“We have 74 (seats in Parliament) and we are steadfast in carrying out our responsibilities as a credible opposition,” he said at an Aidilfitri open house in Gombak Setia.

The former youth and sports minister also downplayed a cryptic Facebook post from Bersatu leader Faiz Na’aman stating: “Already 126 … if it’s true, Alhamdullillah (thank God).”

A simple majority of 112 seats in the Dewan Rakyat is needed to form the government.

On Wednesday, a well-placed source told FMT that Istana Negara would not entertain any claim by any party that Anwar had lost majority support in the Dewan Rakyat.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, had previously said that he had no intention of getting involved in politics and urged politicians to accept the outcome of the last general election (GE15) for the sake of political stability.

Faizal also denied the existence of SDs to appoint opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin as the new prime minister.

“I don’t think so. I believe that didn’t happen. We are in the spirit of Syawal today. We don’t need to think too much (about this).

“Let’s focus on serving the people and strengthening relationships. That’s what we need to do.”

  1. Yup, PN will massacre PH and UMNO in the upcoming State Elections.
After that PH and UMNO will collapse under their own weight.
