KOTA KINABALU, Jan 5 — Parti Warisan has today called for a press conference at the last minute here, as rumours of the state government being replaced heat up.

Some 10 Warisan state assemblymen and other party members have gathered at the Pacific Sutera hotel since 4.30pm.

President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal has yet to arrive. It is believed that Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin will also be present for the announcement.

Yesterday, the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah state government said it is ready to prove its majority support, amidst speculation that there are parties who are planning to topple it.

Secretary-general Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said that GRS is aware of claims of a political group boasting it had more than half of the support of the 79 state assemblymen, enough to form a new government.

There has been some talk of shifting allegiances in the state following the formation of the government at the federal level.

Some rumours claim that both the Opposition and some within the current GRS-Barisan Nasional-led government were in cahoots to topple Datuk Hajiji Noor.

In the 79-seat state assembly, GRS is represented by 29 assemblymen, Warisan 19 and Umno 17.

Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Malaysia (KDM) has three, and PAS, Parti Bangsa Malaysia, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah have one each. There is also one independent lawmaker.

Pakatan Harapan, with four from DAP, two from PKR and one from Upko, is believed to be government-friendly now.

  1. I am always very suspicious of the Froggy Sabahan representatives, regardless of where their current stated allegiance.
