Loke: Won't jump the gun on accepting KJ, sacked Umno leaders

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said his party is not going to get involved in the internal affairs of another organisation, nor is it going to jump the gun when it comes to accepting Umno leaders who have been sacked.

“First of all, this is an internal matter involving another party in this government so we will not interfere or get involved.

“I am not going to comment on any matter involving Umno’s internal matters.

“Secondly, whatever next step Khairy (Jamaluddin) takes is up to him. They haven’t even said what they will do next.

“So let’s not jump the gun. If an application is made, then the individual parties will have to decide at that point. We don’t need to make any open invitation, it’s up to the individuals,” Loke (above) told reporters today.

He was asked if DAP would consider accepting Khairy or any other sacked Umno leader into its fold, particularly with a view to the coming state elections.

“In the government, we are focussed on our responsibilities and fulfilling our promises. These internal matters of component parties will be left to their leadership.

“Our job is to serve the people well. That is our focus point and hopefully, that will bring us support in the upcoming six state elections,” said Loke.

DAP and Umno have been partners in the federal government since the 15th general election last year.

Yesterday, Umno presidential hopeful Khairy was sacked by the party, which also sacked supreme council member Noh Omar, who asked to be let go after he was initially suspended for six years.

Several others have been suspended for six years including Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein and incumbent deputy Umno Youth chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan.

Also suspended were former Jempol MP Salim Sharif and former Tiram assemblyperson Maulizan Bujang.
