Coach who slapped players suspended by volleyball association


The coach will be barred from participating in any national volleyball activities until the investigation is completed.


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Volleyball Association (Mava) has suspended the Melaka U-14 girls’ volleyball coach who was caught on video slapping two of his students.

In a statement, Mava said it would investigate the incident which took place last month.


“Mava does not tolerate any violence against any party and is prepared to take further action in accordance with the law as well as the Mava constitution.

“The coach will be suspended from participating in any national volleyball activities until the investigation is completed.”




In a clip, which has since made the rounds on social media, the coach is seen slapping two players during the 2022 Malaysia Youth U14 Volleyball Championship in Johor.

His action drew the ire of many, including youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh who said it was wrong.

Yeoh’s deputy, Adam Adli also said there was no room for bullying in sports.

Meanwhile, former youth and sports minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu said such incidents could have a negative impact on the children.
