Younger DAP candidates to be nudged towards state seats, says Loke

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke revealed that it will be fielding many of its younger candidates in state seats in the upcoming election.

Loke said this today at the party’s special congress to amend the party constitution in line with the anti-hopping provision in the Federal Constitution at IDCC, Shah Alam.

Despite this, he stressed that young candidates will still be put up as candidates for parliamentary seats.

“Opportunities will be given to young candidates for state seats.

“It’s not that there will be no younger candidates for Parliament but state seats will be a training ground for younger candidates to grow as better leaders for parliamentary seats in the future,” he said.

Retelling an anecdote about former PAS president Fadzil Mohd Noor, Loke described seat negotiations as a “give and take” process.

“Those who are not asking, don’t come. Those who are giving, don’t be stingy. Those who are asking, don’t be greedy,” he said.

Loke stressed that there should not be a culture of bullying within the party when it comes to seat negotiations.

“There should be no bullying. We should be respectful. No matter old or young, we must have a big heart. Pakatan Harapan is not a bully and we are all united,” he said today.

Loke also said that he is confident that the updated Harapan logo will be revealed soon.

DAP national organising secretary Steven Sim previously said Harapan had finished negotiating seats for four to five states.

He added that the party intends to complete its seat negotiations by the end of this month.

  1. Many of the Old Timer State Warlords will protest this move to introduce younger candidates for State Seats.

Some have held their seats for more than 3 terms, and have every intention to stay on.
