Tough to avoid 3-cornered fight for Malay parties, says Khairuddin
Former PAS leader Khairuddin Aman Razali says Malay-Muslim parties should continue building some form of togetherness in the name of Muslim unity.
PETALING JAYA: It will be difficult for Malay-Muslim parties to avoid three-cornered fights come election time, says former PAS leader Khairuddin Aman Razali.
Nonetheless, the former minister said these parties should continue building some form of togetherness in the name of Muslim unity, while contentions in the political arena should just be taken as healthy competition.
In a Facebook post, Khairuddin called for a shift to more mature politics, saying there was a need to move away from personal attacks to fair and factual political criticism.
He said mature politics should seek to be principled, solution-centric, rational and professional, while prioritising the people.
Though the Muafakat Nasional (MN) pact between PAS and Umno had fizzled out, the Kuala Nerus MP said it could still be used as a platform for the two parties to cooperate such as for the welfare of the needy.
“As long as the joint (Barisan Nasional-Perikatan Nasional) government is still functioning at the federal level, there will be room for this cooperation to be strengthened,” he said.
Yesterday, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the Islamic party was yet to give up on its goal to unite the ummah through its pact with Umno.
On the topic of the next general election (GE15), Tuan Ibrahim said PAS was still open to talks as they wanted to work with both Umno and Bersatu.
He also said if PAS and Umno were to cooperate under MN, this framework should be applied nationwide and not limited to certain states.
