KUALA LUMPUR: Najib Razak’s special officer Lutfi Azhar has denied claims that the former prime minister has been transferred to the Sungai Buloh Prison.

“He’ll be sent back to Kajang Prison. He’s not being transferred,” he told reporters outside the High Court here today.

However, he also admitted that he was unsure when or if the transfer would take place.

“I don’t know if they’re moving him to Sungai Buloh.”

Malaysian Gazette quoted a source as saying that the Pekan MP was supposed to have been transferred to the Sungai Buloh Prison at 5pm yesterday.

Today, Najib resumed his 1MDB trial, making his first public appearance since he was jailed on Tuesday.

Najib’s lawyer Shafee Abdullah asked the court to withdraw the testimony of former Treasury deputy secretary-general Siti Zauyah Desa. He cited her non-committal answers and inability to verify the authenticity of certain documents.

Shafee earlier challenged Siti Zauyah on the issue of whether the finance ministry had the authority to require 25% director representation in 1MDB.

To that, Siti Zauyah said she could not answer the question because it involved legal matters.

Najib is facing four charges of using his position as then prime minister to obtain bribes totalling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds, and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.

He was sent to Kajang Prison on Tuesday after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence of 12 years’ jail and RM210 million fine in the SRC International case.
