Fears of the unknown: Bossku’s welfare at Kajang prison becomes talk of the town
IN a deft-yet-polite request on the Prison Department’s Facebook page yesterday (Aug 24), a netizen suggested that the former posts pictures of ex-premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak on a weekly basis for Malaysians to ensure that he is not tortured but treated fairly and equally alongside other prisoners.

Earlier, the Prison Department had to clarify as fake a viral photo of a supposedly VIP prison cell which sparked anger among Malaysians that Malaysia’s sixth Prime Minister who goes by the moniker Bossku has been accorded special treatment which he does not deserve considering the gravity of his wrongdoing.
Whether they are feedback by his loyal supporters or by those who are adamant that Bossku deserved the 12-year jail sentence and RM210 mil fine meted out by the High Court and upheld by both the Court OF Appeal and Federal Court for his RM42 mil SRC International fund embezzlement– none came close to the concern raised by Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The online petition was started by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (BERSIH) amid growing calls from Najib’s supporters for the former prime minister to be granted a royal pardon.
After submitting a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to seek royal intervention in Najib’s corruption conviction yesterday (Aug 24), non-governmental organisation (NGO) Pertubuhan Jalinan Perpaduan Negara Malaysia has urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to apply for a royal pardon to free Najib.
Anwar who has both seen and been through it all is concerned that prison will be a tough contrast to Najib’s “seven-star hotel lifestyle”.
Speaking to CNBC’s “Squawk Box Asia” on Tuesday (Aug 23), Anwar nevertheless expects Najib to have better jail condition than he himself did in the 1990s when he was denied books or family visits. But whatever said, living behind bars would be tough for Malaysia’s first former premier to be imprisoned.
“From what I understand from my old colleagues, prison officers, he will be given somewhat better treatment (as) he will be accorded some facilities,” Anwar told CNBC.
“But still, prison is not a bed of roses, it is tough, particularly comparing to his present lifestyle of a seven-star hotel – you will have to experience something difficult and tough.”
In April 1999, Anwar was sentenced to six years in prison on charges of corruption while in August 2000, he was handed a nine-year jail term for sodomy.
In 2004, he was released after his conviction was overturned. However, he was jailed again in 2014 for sodomy before receiving a royal pardon. He was released in 2018.
Above all else, Anwar also described the Federal Court’s upholding of Najib’s conviction on Tuesday (Aug 23) as a “good beginning” to “reform and mature Malaysia as a vibrant democracy with strong institutions”.
“Political leaders, political elites who continue to rort without [sic] impunity, they think that they’re invincible and above the law (but) now, the message is very clear,” he told CNBC. “Credit must be given to the rakyat who decided, and therefore we have to continue.”
This maybe what Anwar and other law-abiding Malaysians wish to see but to cite Najib’s daughter Nooryana Najwa Najib, the “Bossku (legacy) does not end here”. – Aug 25, 2022

Much More likely that Bossku will receive More Equal than Others treatment in the prison....
