Umno leader calls for Muhyiddin to be charged in court

An Umno leader has called on the government to charge Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin in court over a bribery allegation.

This comes after a witness in Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's corruption trial told the Kuala Lumpur High Court that Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB) had given RM1.3 million to Muhyiddin in 2018 when the latter was the then home minister.

Umno Supreme Council member Razlan Rafii claimed that Zahid was charged in court in 2018 while Muhyiddin was not because former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad held grudges against Umno.

"Mahathir, as the then prime minister, must have known that Muhyiddin was among the characters who took money from UKSB. Tommy Thomas, as the then attorney-general, also should have known all the facts of the case and everyone involved.

"Mahathir's allegations (against Zahid), calling him a robber, was only out of vengeance and his hatred for Umno, nothing else.

"If (the charges against Zahid) were truly to uphold justice, then why Muhyiddin has not been charged in court like Zahid?" he questioned.

UKSB former administrative manager David Tan Siong Sun testified in court yesterday that the company had given Muhyiddin RM1.3 million in cash payments between June 4 and Aug 23, 2018.

Zahid is facing 33 charges of receiving bribes amounting to S$13.56 million (RM43 million) from UKSB over four years from 2014 to 2018 as the then home minister to extend the contract of the company as the operator of one-stop centre service in China and the foreign visa (VLN) system, as well as to maintain the contract agreement to supply the VLN integrated system for the same company by the Home Ministry.

The former prime minister had since issued a statement denying the claim. Muhyiddin also stated that he is prepared to be investigated by the MACC on the matter.

Razlan lamented that while Zahid had to answer his case in court and faced criticisms from the rakyat, Muhyiddin could get away by issuing a denial in the media.

"Muhyiddin must be charged in court with the same charges faced by Zahid. Right or wrong, he must answer in court," he said.
