Hard for PKR grassroots to swallow Azmin return - Fahmi


It may be hard for PKR grassroots members to accept their former deputy president Azmin Ali if he were to return to the party, said Fahmi Fadzil.

The PKR communications director said this when asked to comment on Malaysiakini’s report today that Azmin had a meeting with emissaries from the party two days ago.

Fahmi said he also has no information that would enable him to confirm that the meeting had taken place and the details of the discussion.

“This matter was not discussed at the PKR leadership level. I do not have any information if the meeting really happened or otherwise, and who had attended it or not.

“(However), it would be hard for party grassroots and supporters to accept a controversial figure like Azmin back into PKR,” he told a PKR media Whatsapp group.

This afternoon, Malaysiakini reported that Azmin had met with two PKR emissaries at Sheraton Hotel in Petaling Jaya on Wednesday, where they were said to have discussed several issues including the allegiance of MPs loyal to the international trade and industry minister.

Azmin defected to Bersatu in February 2020 during the “Sheraton Move” - so named because of a dinner party at the Sheraton Hotel to celebrate the birth of a new political alignment to oust the then Pakatan Harapan government.
