Zuraida should stay on as minister, says Khairuddin

Khairuddin Aman Razali says there have been three ministers in charge of plantation industries and commodities in one term.

PETALING JAYA: Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin should stay on as a minister until the dissolution of Parliament, says Khairuddin Aman Razali.

The Kuala Nerus MP said a new plantation industries and commodities minister would have a huge impact on the ministry, adding that Parliament’s dissolution was at most a year away.

“The new minister will need time to understand the ins and outs of the ministry. The ministry is responsible for a large portion of the country’s GDP, especially export earnings,” he said in a Facebook post.

Khairuddin said changes to government-linked companies’ (GLCs) chairmen and key officers appointed by Zuraida were bound to happen, and that any change of minister would incur a cost to the government.

“In one term, the ministry has had three ministers. If the reshuffle is unavoidable due to the needs of Bersatu, then I propose that deputy minister Willie Mongin be appointed as the minister representing the party so that the ministry’s work can continue.”

His comments come following Zuraida’s decision to quit Bersatu to join the newly formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

In a statement today, she said she would meet Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob soon to discuss her resignation from the Cabinet, but maintained that she would continue supporting Ismail’s government, in line with PBM’s stand.

Zuraida joined Bersatu in 2020 after being sacked from PKR in the wake of the Sheraton Move.
