PETALING JAYA: DAP is set to introduce fresh faces in the upcoming general election (GE15) as part of its rejuvenation process, though this will be done gradually, says its secretary-general, Loke Siew Fook.

The Seremban MP pointed out that many incumbent elected representatives in the party including him were still young.

“We don’t have a target on how many new faces we want to field but it’s a norm for us in every general election to introduce fresh faces as part of the rejuvenation process,” he said at a press conference in Penang today.

“But an important factor that we need to consider is that in DAP, there are many young incumbents. I myself am still 45 years old.

“(Bukit Mertajam MP) Steven Sim is also still young though he has been here for two terms. How can I replace him (with another candidate)?”

Sim, DAP’s new organising secretary, is 40.

On election candidates from Penang DAP, Loke said there will be a series of interviews with potential selections in the near future, adding that they are also looking for new faces.

“This process is very important. The federal DAP will leave it to the state chapter to select the best candidates for the elections,” he said.

On Muda’s intention to contest in the state, he said it was up to Penang DAP to discuss cooperation.

He also said Pakatan Harapan had never discussed cooperating with Bersatu for GE15, and that it was PH’s priority to consolidate its position.
