'PAS leaks': Umno leaders named in document must come clean - Khaled

Umno leaders named in the so-called leaked PAS political intelligence report have been urged to explain themselves.

Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the Umno leaders mentioned in the document must clarify the purpose of their meetings with PAS.

"If they keep quiet, it raises more questions," Khaled (above) told Malaysiakini.

The document summarised meetings conducted by two PAS leaders who visited political figures from Bersatu, Pejuang and Umno.

Based on the document, Umno was heavily discussed during these meetings, including criminal trials faced by its leaders, the possible fate of Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Umno's decision to delay an internal leadership election, among others.

PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, one of the two leaders involved in those meetings, has described the leaked document as "rubbish".

However, he conceded that those meetings took place, but the contents of the alleged leaked document were inaccurate. It is uncertain if Samsuri was referring to all five meetings or just some.

According to the purported leaked document, Samsuri was part of a PAS delegation that met a prominent Umno MP and a senator on April 6.

Malaysiakini cannot independently verify the contents of the purported leaked document and is withholding those named as meeting participants until they publicly comment on the issue or respond to Malaysiakini's queries.

Khaled said he would not be surprised if PAS was plotting against Umno, given PAS' behaviour in recent years.

"When they embraced Bersatu (in 2020), we understood what they thought of Umno. Now that the (purported) leaked document is made public, it is up to those named to absolve themselves," he added.

Khaled was referring to the fact that PAS pursued the Muafakat Nasional charter with Umno in 2019 only to align themselves with Bersatu the following year.

Calls for investigation

Johor Umno deputy chief Nur Jazlan Mohamed called on the party disciplinary body to investigate the allegations contained in the document.

Nur Jazlan told Malaysiakini that the leaked documents had revealed the identities of traitors in the party for all Umno members to see.

"The Umno disciplinary committee should take action and investigate. They must summon all those named in the document to answer to the party.

"It is good that this conspiracy between Bersatu, PAS and 'katak pengkhianat' (treacherous frogs) who are in Bersatu and those who are still in Umno have finally been uncovered. So I hope Umno members will take note," he said.

‘Sumpah laknat’ challenge

Selangor BN information chief Isham Jalil challenged Samsuri to undertake a "sumpah laknat" oath to deny the contents of the purported leaked document.

"If all the things said in the meeting minutes were really not correct, then I call him to swear a sumpah laknat," he said, according to the Info Rakyat website.

"Just a mere denial won't cut it because the rakyat no longer believes two-faced politicians who would say one thing but do the opposite."
