PKR cries provocation after Anwar's face on billboard set on fire

JOHOR POLLS | PKR has criticised the unknown actors who had set fire to party president Anwar Ibrahim's face on a billboard in the state seat of Bukit Batu in southern Johor.

PKR's Bukit Batu candidate Arthur Chiong Sen Sern said the action tainted the harmonious campaigning for the Johor state election.

"To whoever who carried out this provocation, let us have a healthy competition and allow the democratic process to proceed peacefully.

"Johoreans are matured people and they know how to differentiate between the good and the bad," Chiong said in a statement.

Chiong, who is facing three other contenders in Bukit Batu, urged his supporters not to retaliate.

His opponents are Warisan's Lee Ming Wen, Perikatan Nasional's Tan Heng Choon and BN's S Suppayah.

PN also complained that it has continued to face a string of vandalism in the past week of campaigning.

Johor Bersatu Youth chief Muhammad Shamsuddin Paijan said their campaign canvases have been damaged and billboards deliberately tilted over in the state seats of Tiram and Buloh Kasap.

Muhammad urged the police to take swift and stern action.

"We want immediate prosecution and punishment during the Johor election campaign period to serve as a deterrent to the supporters and leaders of other parties," he said.

Muhammad also called on all participants in the Johor polls to ensure a matured, professional and clean political environment.

Campaigning for the Johor polls kicked off on Feb 26. Johoreans will go to the polls on March 12.
