GEORGE TOWN – The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) is monitoring the activities and development of the three converted children currently in the care of their non-Muslim mother.

Jakim deputy director-general (operations) Datuk Sirajuddin Suhaimee said the Kedah Islamic Religious Council is keeping an eye on the kids and is keeping Jakim updated.

Sirajuddin said the monitoring of the children was done in accordance with several resolutions outlined by the state Islamic religious council and legal experts.

“The affairs of the three children are under the authority of the state Islamic religious council and we are only informed about their development.

“Currently, everything is running smoothly and no issues have arisen involving the three children,” he said to a press conference after being asked on the status of the three children who are now with their mother Loh Siew Hong after being converted by their father.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman said the Penang Religious Council was not involved in the affairs of the children as they lived in Sg Petani, Kedah.

“They (three siblings) only study at a religious institution in this state (Penang),” he said.

Last month, Loh was granted a writ of habeas corpus by the Kuala Lumpur High Court against the unlawful detention of her three children.

Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah, when delivering his judgment, agreed with Loh’s lawyer A. Srimurugan that the respondents in this matter had gone against court orders issued in 2019 and 2021 that grants the single mother full custody of the children.

She had filed the application seeking the freedom of her 14-year-old twin daughters and 10-year-old son from their alleged detention after being separated from them for three years. – The Vibes, March 23, 2022
