‘Harapan should terminate cooperation with Muda’

JOHOR POLLS | Pakatan Harapan should terminate its cooperation with Muda if the party clashes with Harapan in any seat it contests, said Damansara PKR Youth vice chief Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman.

He said when Muda agreed to accept Harapan’s offer to contest in six seats at the upcoming Johor election, it meant it is prepared to cooperate with Harapan as an electoral bloc.

“For the record, PKR is also offering three seats to Muda although Muda doesn’t seem interested in the offer.

“Muda should not place its candidates in seats that will be contested by Harapan component parties because that would allow our opponents to win.

“If Muda still wishes to clash, then clearly Muda’s presence only serves as an agent of division and Harapan should withdraw all seats it has given,” said the former PKR Youth central committee vice chief in a statement today.

Muda announced it will field a candidate to contest the Larkin state seat even though PKR already announced a candidate there earlier, setting the stage for a multi-cornered fight.

PKR is fielding Zamil Najwah Arbain as its candidate, while Muda has named its Johor information chief Rasid Abu Bakar as its contender.

In announcing Rasid’s candidacy, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said every effort has been made to avoid the clash in Larkin, but to no avail.

He said Muda held several rounds of negotiations with other parties along with DAP and Amanah.

Meanwhile, Syed Badli urged Muda to be rational in its judgement as failure to do so would be detrimental to the fledging youth-led party.

“I advise Muda to be more rational in making political decisions because every step made in facing an election will have consequences in the future,” he said.
