PETALING JAYA: Johor PAS is still holding out hope that its Muafakat Nasional (MN) pact with Umno will work for the upcoming state elections.

Johor PAS commissioner Abdullah Hussin said the matter would be discussed in detail with Johor Umno liaison committee chairman Hasni Mohammad, who is also the menteri besar, in the near future.

“Johor PAS has been in touch with Johor Umno and has received positive feedback on our request to meet the menteri besar.

“InsyaAllah, a meeting will be held in the near future.

“The PAS central leadership has also given us the green light to proceed with our efforts to work together with Umno under MN. Hopefully, we can reach an understanding,” he said when contacted by Harian Metro.

In the recent Melaka election, PAS had opted to tie up with Bersatu and contest under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner. However, PAS lost all of the eight seats it contested.

Abdullah said Johor PAS was ready for the snap polls, which must be held before March 23.

“The distribution of seats will be discussed with the central leadership and in talks with Hasni,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bersatu said it intended to meet its PN allies, PAS and Gerakan, over preparations for the polls.

Bersatu chairman and state chapter chief Muhyiddin Yassin will chair a meeting soon with the state division leaders and the party machinery will discuss its own preparations, the party said in a statement.
