Kangar MP apologises to Najib over FB post about slanderous 'Selamat jalan to Mahathir'

Kangar MP apologises to Najib over FB post

Kangar MP Noor Amin Ahmad has apologised and deleted a Facebook post on Dr Mahathir Mohamad after Najib Razak threatened to sue him.

PETALING JAYA: Kangar MP Noor Amin Ahmad has apologised to Najib Razak for claiming the former prime minister posted “Selamat jalan?” (“Farewell?”) on Facebook after news broke that Dr Mahathir Mohamad had been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN).

Amin said he reposted a tweet by Mahathir’s press secretary, Adam Mukhriz Mohd Muhayeedin that carried a screenshot of Najib’s purported posting. The screenshot, however, was fake and Adam has since deleted his tweet.

Amin admitted his mistake for sharing the screenshot and said he had taken his post down.

“I was driven by resentment when I saw that comment made towards someone who is ill. Therefore, I apologise for my mistake,” he said.

Amin said he would also seek legal advice for those who had used his Facebook photos to create posts that are not from him.

Earlier today, Najib took to Facebook to announce that he had instructed his lawyer to sue the Kangar MP if he did not take down the false post and apologise openly today.

“Atuk’s (Dr Mahathir) aide will also be sued because the Kangar MP claimed he was quoting Adam’s tweet.

“It is hard to believe that when Atuk is sick, they are making such slanderous comments in the name of politics,” he said.

FMT has reached out to Adam for a comment.
