No let in scorn for MP's sheer nonsensical 'idiocy' on 'drinking a Malay woman'

Stop personal attacks on Rusnah over ‘drinking Timah’, says PKR woman

PETALING JAYA: Alor Gajah PKR chief Ginie Lim today came to the defence of her party colleague Tangga Batu MP Rusnah Aluai and wants all personal and sensational attacks over the latter’s opinion on the Timah whisky to cease.

Lim said although she doesn’t necessarily agree with Rusnah’s opinion on Timah, she believes the country’s plural society must allow room for healthy and open discussions.

Rusnah’s statement sparked controversy when she said “Timah”, the Malaysian-made whisky which recently made headlines over its brand name, is a disservice to women.

Rusnah insisted that Timah was a name associated with a Malay woman, like “Kak Timah” or “Makcik Timah”.

“So when we drink the whisky, it gives the impression that we are drinking a Malay woman,” she said in the Dewan Rakyat. A video clip of her making the comments has since gone viral on social media.

“Any criticism based on facts can be accepted to help everyone understand one another,” said Lim.

“However, the personal attacks against Rusnah have been disrespectful and offensive in nature. They do not promote a healthy culture,” she said in a statement.

Lim, who served as the women’s development and welfare exco in the former Pakatan Harapan state government in Melaka, added that Rusnah only brought up the issue in her capacity as a concerned citizen towards women’s issues in order to highlight the context during a debate in the Dewan Rakyat.

kt notes:

Whilst there should/must be room for healthy and open discussions, this doesn't include sheer nonsensical 'idiocy'. Rusnah Aluai is NOT fit to be an MP, least of all for PKR.

  1. What is this MP trying to do in defending her colleague? Rusnah has now apologised and of course caimed she was misunderstood. Ginie Lim looks like an idiot now!

Btw, I read the whisky producers are contemplating changing the brand name. They have asked for a week to mull the decision.

It will be a sad day if they ultimately capitulate to these muslim bigots.

And of course Malaysia will be a laughing stock to the world if that happens.

But does anyone realise when such a controversy (idiocy actually) takes place, no senior Muslim politicians would venture to bring their members to be rational. Only idiots like Ginie Lim is confused between free speech and bigotry.
