Umno will not be happy with Cabinet, says Ku Li

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah hopes the salaries of the new Cabinet members would be half of what they were paid previously.

PETALING JAYA: Umno will not be happy with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s Cabinet line-up, party stalwart Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said.

He said he could only speculate that those who were picked to fill the 69 ministerial and deputy ministerial posts were selected because “they were the only choice”.

“I am certain that Umno will be disappointed with the new Cabinet line-up.

“Let us hope the government will at least halve their salaries from what they earned under (former prime minister) Muhyiddin (Yassin),” the Gua Musang MP, better known as Ku Li, said in a brief statement today, becoming the latest from Umno to criticise the selection.

Earlier today, Umno Supreme Council member Johari Abdul Ghani, who had been hoping that the prime minister would form a bipartisan Cabinet, labelled the line-up as “uninspiring”.

Former prime minister Najib Razak also pointed out that there were many who were disappointed with the new Cabinet and called on Ismail to drop the non-performers after the 100th day.

The opposition and public alike have slammed the new line-up, with many taking issue with the fact it featured mostly those who had served in the previous Perikatan Nasional government.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim called the new Cabinet a “recycled line-up” which featured those who failed to perform in the last 17 months being reappointed.

Social media users felt that there was hardly any difference as the new line-up retained nearly every member from the past administration.
