OTTAWA: Another 182 unmarked graves have been discovered at a third indigenous residential school in Canada, a local tribe announced yesterday, on the heels of two similar finds amounting to hundreds of burials.

Experts used ground penetrating radar mapping to locate what are believed to be the remains of pupils aged seven to 15 at the former St Eugene’s Mission School near Cranbrook, British Columbia, the Lower Kootenay Band said in a statement.

The grim development follows the discovery of remains of 215 children in unmarked graves at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia in May and 751 more unmarked graves at another school in Marieval in Saskatchewan last week.

The Lower Kootenay Band said a search of the Cranbrook site, where the Catholic Church operated a school on behalf of the federal government from 1912 until the early 1970s, was started last year.

Some of the graves were as shallow as three to four feet deep, it said.

They are believed to be the remains of members of bands of the Ktunaxa nation, which includes the Lower Kootenay, and other neighbouring indigenous communities.

Until the 1990s, some 150,000 Indian, Inuit and Metis youngsters were forcibly enrolled in 139 of these residential schools, where students were physically and sexually abused by headmasters and teachers who stripped them of their culture and language.

More than 4,000 died of disease and neglect in the schools, according to a commission of inquiry that concluded Canada had committed “cultural genocide”.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau apologised for the “harmful government policy” of indigenous assimilation.

QUOTE (Wikipedia lah for those too lazy to look)
The Great Leap Forward (Second Five Year Plan) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) was an economic and social campaign led by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from 1958 to 1962. Chairman Mao Zedong launched the campaign to reconstruct the country from an agrarian economy into a communist society through the formation of people's communes. Mao decreed increased efforts to multiply grain yields and bring industry to the countryside. Local officials were fearful of Anti-Rightist Campaigns and competed to fulfill or over-fulfill quotas based on Mao's exaggerated claims, collecting "surpluses" that in fact did not exist and leaving farmers to starve. Higher officials did not dare to report the economic disaster caused by these policies, and national officials, blaming bad weather for the decline in food output, took little or no action. The Great Leap resulted in tens of millions of deaths, with estimates ranging between 15 and 55 million deaths, making the Great Chinese Famine the largest famine in human history.

    1. CPC made mistakes just like all other countries during her foundational years of establishing a clear path for nationhood.

The Great Leap - the campaign to reconstruct the country from an agrarian economy into a communist society through the formation of people's communes was part of the learning curve that the nation must partook. It was a well intended decision for the dirt poor nation just coming out from a prolonged war.

Part of its failures lied with human greeds. Part of it with inexperienced administrators too eager to chase unachievable targets. Part of it weather as detailed in this CIA report - SNIE 13-61 THE ECONOMIC SITUATION IN COMMUNIST CHINA

The greatest culprit was the total foreign sanctions of almost every humanitarian aids to the then communist China!

When the national crops failed, the ONLY outside aids THEN were contributed by the oversea Chinese. KMT controlled Taiwan did nothing! So too r all the 'charitable' & 'humanistic' organisations of the world! All of them were just counting on the ultimate demise of the communist China.

BTW, since u r so trustful about western data, could u change yr f*cked 'estimates ranging between 15 and 55 million deaths' to those mentioned in that CIA disclosure?

Would u, AGAIN, blurred small minded mfer?

    Xunhua Incident
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Xunhua Incident (Chinese: 循化事件) was an uprising of Tibetan and Salar people against the rule of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Qinghai, China in April, 1958. The incident took place in Xunhua Salar Autonomous County of Qinghai Province, the hometown of 10th Panchen Lama, amid the Great Leap Forward. Since March 1958, local officials imposed strict rules for socialist transformations and, in order to prevent uprising, religious leaders including Jnana Pal Rinpoche (加乃化仁波切), a well-respected monk, were forcibly sent for re-education. Over 4,000 people with different ethnic backgrounds subsequently revolted and killed a team leader from the CCP task force. The incident ended in suppression and a massacre by the People's Liberation Army, which killed 435 people within four hours on April 25, most of whom were unarmed civilians.

    3. The Xunhua Incident (循化事件) happened in Xunhua Salar Autonomous County of Qinghai Province, the hometown of 10th Panchen Lama.

Zhu Xiafu (朱侠夫), the vice secretary of CCP committee in Qinghai, called on fast socialist transformations of nomads and set quota for different areas, forcibly establishing the socialist cooperatives for animal husbandry.

Zhu was convinced that in order to totally eliminate the hateful hereditary 农奴 system, a new & strict rules for socialist transformations must be imposed upon the Xunhua Salar Autonomous County.

Part of the directive of the Central Committee of CPCP began to "use meetings and study sessions to rein in the minority religious leaders" for socialistic reeducations. This was bcoz these elite Lama still command respect s, fears & mental control over the peasants.

Due to the low level of education & generations of indoctrination, the general peasants were unable to accept the drastic & sometimes draconian enforcements even though the new policies released them from the cruel meme-ed bondages to the ruling Lama class.

When Jnana Pal Rinpoche (加乃化仁波切), a prestigious monk from Bimdo Monastery (温都寺) who was a vice administrator of Xunhua County and had taught Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama, were forcibly sent for re-education riots happened. There were clear evidences that these riots were instigated by many dissatisfied elite Lama who had lost their inherited class privileges. There were foreign influences too, especially the British Commonwealth outpost in India.

It was estimated that over 4,000 people, many with arms smuggled from India, subsequently revolted and killed a team leader from the CCP task force. The incident ended when the PLA moved in to suppress the riots.

The Xunhua Incident is an unfortunately a classic case of force-marching an ancient & deeply meme-ed zombies into modernisation that they don't understand & ready! With foreign influences too.

The fault of Zhu Xiafu lied in been too eager to help a group of long deprived peasants from the truly evil hereditary 农奴 system. Perhaps, this has something to do with his own dirt poor upbringing & his hatted for the elite class.

Blurred mfer, an advice. Next time don't just do simple c&p farts that appeal to yr f*cking sense of China/CPC/Chinese bashing!

Especially Tibet - check hereditary 农奴 system before u fart.

Maybe it's too much to ask a simpleton to do in-depth researches about a subject that it thoughts it could used to its advantages!

BTW, China has nothing to apologize vis-a-vis the The Xunhua Incident (循化事件)!

Trudeau Apologizes for Abuse and ‘Profound Cultural Loss’ at Indigenous Schools

Andrew Vaughan/The Canadian Press, via Associated Press
    By Ian Austen
    Nov. 24, 2017

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered a broad and emotional apology on Friday to indigenous people in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, where for much of the 20th century indigenous children were compelled to attend boarding schools that separated them from their families and cultures and, in many cases, subjected them to abuse.

In addition to the apology, the Canadian government settled a class-action lawsuit and will provide about 50 million Canadian dollars to about 900 former students of the five schools, which endured until 1980.

The decision came after a decade-long controversy over the federal government’s responsibility.

In 2008, Mr. Trudeau’s predecessor, Stephen Harper, apologized to indigenous people in the rest of Canada for a residential school program the federal government operated from the 19th century until 1996. A national Truth and Reconciliation Commission later condemned that system as a form of “cultural genocide.”

Because Newfoundland and Labrador did not join Canada until 1949, its boarding school system had different origins even if it had a similar legacy. Mr. Harper’s government took the view that the abuses committed there in the early 20th century were not the federal government’s fault.

But in a ceremony in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland, at which victims also spoke, Mr. Trudeau said, “It’s time for Canada to acknowledge its history for what it is: flawed, imperfect and unfinished.”

“For far too many students, profound cultural loss led to poverty, family violence, substance abuse and community breakdown,” Mr. Trudeau said. “It led to mental and physical health issues that have impeded their happiness and that of their family. Far too many continue to face adversity today as a result of time spent in residential schools, and for that we are sorry.”
