Puad says the leak of minister’s recording is ‘concerning’ - Normal lah, same old same old

Puad says the leak of minister’s recording is ‘concerning’

Umno’s Mohd Puad Zarkashi has raised questions about privacy and snooping after a recording of a man who sounded like home minister Hamzah Zainudin was posted on several blogs.

PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi today raised concerns over the country’s security after a purported recording of a minister talking about the reshuffle in the police force had gone viral.

Puad claimed the person recorded sounded like home minister Hamzah Zainudin talking about promotions and the change of roles in the police force.

“If the home minister’s conversation can be recorded, then is Malaysia safe? It is not about who recorded it or whether it is legitimate, but the question is: the details in the conversation, is it a scandal?” he asked in a Facebook post today.

Puad said a thorough investigation was necessary and Hamzah might have to lodge a police report beforehand.

“But who has the power to order an immediate investigation, the home minister or the inspector-general of police?

“Is there going to be a big war, with exposés and conflicts that might reduce the country’s confidence in the Perikatan Nasional government?” he asked.

In the recording, which was posted on several blogs, a man was heard discussing giving a Perakian a promotion, plausibly for a police role. The man was also heard saying that another person should no longer decide on the appointment of state police chiefs but could only nominate five names.

FMT has contacted Hamzah and the IGP for comment.

kt notes:

Not in the least surprised at all, considering a then-PM was recorded in his private conversation with his wife and some officials. Yes, even a (then) PM could be electronically eavesdropped, and our SB and National Security people are supposed to be the best, so what's more for a Home Minister.

Th sad politicised part of Najib's private conversation with Rosmah and other officials being tape was exploited to its full, with then MACC Director releasing said tape in court as evidence against the allegation Rosmah had a controlling say in the PM's job - even then, t'was a long bow.

The veracity of that Najib-Rosmah recording was not even checked (unlike Ass-binte's alleged gay sex video clip which was even sent "overseas" by the police IGP for verification). So long as Atuk agents could screw Najib, the glaring damaging unfairness in that setup were:

and the IGP couldn't provide verification but the Najib-Rosmah tape was even accepted by MACC and the Court

(i) minus proper authentication, the recording released out-of-the-blue by the MACC Head was accepted by the court, and far more serious,

(ii) no one in authority gave an eff about the security implications, to wit, a then serving PM had his private conversation secretly recorded (and suddenly revealed by the MACC Boss without any explanation on its existence) - a la the mattress allegedly "used" by Anwar Ibrahim being dragged into court to provide so-called "evidence" of the alleged sodomy he committed (again, in a period under Atuk's PMship).

Indeed, "disinformation" by technology

  1. Supposing a private conversation between a sitting PM with his police aide was secretly recorded in which the PM gave the order to “kow Tim” a Mongolian model. OK to expose?

    2. In Malaysia, PDRM would not only not act on it, the person who made such a report would be subject to very severe harrassment.

Witness how the Najib PDRM pressured those who attempted to expose 1MDB.

    4. If I report to Bador more likely I will be under siasat, so better I just release it anonymously. Even KT hentam IGP, MACC Boss, AG etc. So who to trust and make report to?

    5. Even the Sandakan hotel video was released secretly and Bador did nothing......and KT hentam him day and night. Now KT ask to report to Bador?

      Circular Logic like Capt Thaya-Pandai.

  2. If you have reason to believe a crime has been committed but you fail to report it, you would be committing a crime too; the problem in Malaysia is the people you are supposed to report it to (polis, MACC etc) oftentimes don't have the trust of the people and you instead will be investigated. So the next best thing is to release it anonymously. Which is what has happened here.

Focus on the message, not the messenger.

  3. This is how polis “take action” when an innocent schoolgirl publicly expose a teacher. Deputy IGP brush aside, belittle the report instead and embarrass the poor girl.

So KT want us to make a polis report? Tak Masuk Akal.

MPs blast deputy IGP over 'maybe a joke' comment on rape threat.

Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto has blasted Deputy Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani for his comment that a rape threat against a teen is ‘maybe a joke’, saying it normalises rape culture and belittles the victim.

"This is the reason why victims of sexual offences, including domestic violence, hesitate to step forward to lodge a police report.

"I read with shock and disbelief the comment made by the deputy IGP with regard to the police report made by a student who was threatened with rape by her fellow classmate...

Khairuddin says he was detained under Sosma to protect Najib
    Bernama -April 27, 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: Khairuddin Abu Hassan today told the High Court, here, that his detention by police under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) was to protect former prime minister Najib Razak, who allegedly abused his powers in connection with the 1MDB scandal.

Khairuddin, 59, as the plaintiff, when reading his witness statement said his detention by former inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar and seven other individuals was merely to prevent him from going to France, Switzerland, the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore to assist the authorities in those countries to complete their investigations.

“The prosecution has used provisions under Sosma against me, among others, to restrict my freedom to travel abroad to assist the authorities there on the police report (investigating the 1MDB issue) that I had submitted and to protect kleptocracy and abuse of power by the former prime minister,” he said on the second day of the trial of his (Khairuddin’s) suit against Khalid and seven other individuals in connection with his detention and prosecution under Sosma.

The seven individuals are Wan Aeidil Wan Abdullah and C Muniandy, both investigating officers at the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department; Dang Wangi district deputy police chief Habibi Majinji; deputy public prosecutor Masri Mohd Daud; senior federal counsel Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud; former attorney-general (AG) Mohamed Apandi Ali and the government.
